AGAINST RIOTERS
Belfast. Ireland. July 23.?Soldiers
were compelled to use machine Runs ;

the city last night and early this
morning. In the Falls road district the ]
Sinn Fciners were sniping soldiers and |
police from roofs and wndows of
houses. The troops returned the fire.
It is stated that the wounded persons j

Three Unionists were shot dead by ,
Sinn Fein snipers and another man's

POLAND HARD PRESSED

London, July 23.?The Polish outlook
appears increasingly menacing to
commentators in this morning's newspapers.*
Poland not aidy is extremely
hard pressed by the Bolsheviki armies,
Ihev say, but her territory already is
invaded. One of the papers prints
news purporting to have been received
by the British Foreign office, which
says the Bolsheviki right wing has occupied
Seiny. northwest of Grodno,
and about thirty miles from the nearest
point on the German frontier. The
Bolsheviki capture of Grodno is confirmed
and the Reds are also reported
to have taken Bielostok, 110 miles
from Warsaw, while in the south they
have entered eastern Galacia.
The ministry of Premier Grabski is
reported to have resigned, with the
administration entrusted to extreme
radicals, with the idea, it is said, that
such a government would be better
able to make terms with the invaders.
It is stated that preparations are being
made for the evacuation of Warsw.
Emphasis is laid on the danger to
the peace of all Europe by most of the
newspapers and the anti-bolsheviki
papers see in the Soviet army's advance
a determination to destroy Poland.
Another fear expressed is that if the
Bolsheviki victoriouslv reach the east
em frontier of Germany a Spartacist
yr Monarchists uprising: there would
ae inevitable, either of which, they
jay, would be equally fatal to the re:onstruction
of Europe.
^Papers which have been consistently
distrustful of the Germans forsee
that the military party of Germany
not onlv would find in such a case an
excuse for further delaying reorganizing

the civil guard, but would secure a
lirect line of communication with Russia
and make itself master of the Bolsheviki
organzations and Russia herself.
"If this plan is carried out." says
