i OLBSTYRE REPLIES TO SPOTTER.
I Doubts the Presence of "Wimmin" at
Three .Mile Township, Nov. 22, '21.
Dear Mr. Edditer:?Have bin thinkin
fur sum tyme previously of ritin to
yore paper but was jus afraid you
wud not publish my peece. But have
bin readin Mr. Highball Spotter's artucles
and it has put me to thinkin,
so I spoke to my old fren, Sarah Jane
Doolittle, about ihit, so she tells me
to doo so by all meens. Now, Sarah
w Jane is well informed, for shes travt
piod erbout considerbul, and can talk
I>A so nice erbout home equinoxes and
, mental deficiency for wimmin. Now
as to miself, I never cud talk much
but cud allers shout with my pin.
V Don't think I'm puffed up erbout my
ritin erbility, fur I aint* Mr. Edditer,
?' . but lots of folks have been sayin fur
sum tyme that I ort not to hyde my
lite under a quart measure.
Well, enuff sed erlong this line, to
cum to the rale objec of this peece
I and to make a short story long. I'll
|&v say that while I have every respec
fur Mr. Spotter, stil I muss say I doo
differ sum with him. In- the fuss
place I don't beleeve there was enny
wimmin at that meetin he spoke erbout,
for if there was they mus have
bin skeered. That meetin is so karLt
, . acteristic of the men?fus a heap of
fcalkin and nothing else. Anuther
case of sumthin attempted nuthin
dun as the poit has so bootifully said.
In the secon place hes makin all
manner of complaints erbout the bad
E erodes and tne men Denin me jou?.
S Now if Mr. Spotter wus much of a
8T filosopher, think he cud see so easy
BJjr- that it wus not the bad rodes that
P caused so menny cars to be over
I turned, but rather the bad drivin and I
S the bad whiskey behin the drivin.
B Uno I don't believe you'll hear of so
K much complaints erbout bad rodes
1 an so forth when we wimmin cum
| into power, fur raly dont surpose
m we'll have many cars to turn over,
perhaps only an old grey mule and
S jersie waggin, but annyway we'll try
B to be continted an happie an if we
R?- make a bad bargain we'll make the
K best of it. Certainly, as Sarah Jane

complish sumthin if its only to hush

R Uno in the third place, don't think
X we wimmin folks wud ever think fer

We intend to let it stay rite where it
is, and it doo seam funny that Mr.
Spotter and his contimporaries wild
think of movin old Fish Pon, fur dont
they know that in movin it they'd
lykely turn over sum of there stills,
and too, set it down on some other
kommunity. They doo tell me that
there is places on this ole earth where
theres nothin but space but am sure
this write, has traveled at least 40
myles from home and have never
struck one of these places yet, an
even if they did the transportation
wud be orful hy. Uno, whin we talk
of the things we are goin to doo,

and say that we'll never do enything
in polertics, that we wimmin talk too
much erbout our valors, and that we
can't keep a secret at all. In behaff '
of my feller wimmin I wish to denie
both these charges. In the fust place
we don't speke ill of our frens unless
sumbody else has said it fust, and the
men do ditto and the same. As to
the matter of keepin secrits, am sure
I've kep my age a profuse secrit for
the pass 45 years and intin to keep
it hence forward to ad infinitum.
And uno Mr. Edditer, forty secondly
and lassly, I hope you'll publish
my peece, and that you'll help usi
out some in our political troubles (if
we hav enny) when we try the blaized
trail. If I see this in print will
write you agen soonly. With gud
wishes to yore paper, and hopin you'll
continue to sin it to me fur I doo
love to be up to dait, I remane,
Yours very respectively,
MIRANDY OLDSTYLE.
