W. D. C ATk ATk ATk ATA T^T T^T T^T ^ Concord street just outside of one of. the docks of the Clyde line. One of them, the first one to fin-; ish his lunch, rubbed his hand' across his mouth, and, reaching up, took off the hat which adorned the head, pull-! ing forth a half-smoked cigarette and a pair of dice, and in a manner which denoted extreme bliss dropped the "bones" on the ground. "Hurry up, j you niggers, if you wants to shoot1 some crap," snapped he, and presently there were seven or eight of them1 squatted down on the ground and the bones began rolling. I One of the passengers of the Clyde liner Lenape, a ventriloquist, spied the game and desiring to have some fun, sauntered over to within twenty or twenty-five feet of the squatting forms. "Now, look here, nigger, don't t'row me down so hard," said the ventriloquist, throwing his voice into the crowd. For a few moments the men appeared startled, but after looking around once or twice they resumed their game of African golf. "Now, look here nigger, did you hear me? I said not to t'row me down so hard," said the ventriloquist again. Each one of the men glanced at the others, but not a word was said, and after a few moments interruption the game was started again. "Dawgonit, nigger?didn't you hear me say not to t row me down so hard. Don't have me tell you again," chortled the ventriloquist. The featherweight player who had been rolling the "bones," laid them on the ground, and turning to the others in the game exclaimed: "Is you all hearin' the same thing I is? Dees dice sho is talkin?" "I mean what I said, and there is going to be trouble around here if I have to tell you again not to throw me down so hard," said the ventriloquist. Away edged one of the men, then another, then the third, until finally the crowd had dispersed, leaving the dice on the ground. The last thing seen was the ventriloquist who" was standing by laughing heartily, and at the same time trying to tell some of the other passengers how he had broken up the game, while the men apparently unaware of the fact that a joke had been | played upon them, were walking up the Clyd? dock with their eyes wide open.?News and Courier. ^ In North Dakota women, while al| lowed to vote, do not have to pay I a poll tax. t i the opening of posit Departmei f ! ? pt your LiDerty them, and we g Id you need to 1 s free to everyb ince and we hai buy.
