1. Cije Bamberg ^eraH EST ABLISHED APRIL, 1891. Published Weekly at Bamberg, S. C. Entered as second-elass natter April 1891, under Act of March 3, 1879. $2.00 PER YEAR. Volume 29. No. 47. Thursday Nov. 25, 1920. The "Tri-County Record," which, according to its heading, has circulation in "Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, and1 Hampton" counX A * ties, has quite an imposing uue. u is not entirely clear why the title is limited to "tri-county" when it admits circulation in five counties. The paper has four ready printed pages, six columns of home set reading matter, and three columns of local matter. Evidently there is not much news in the five counties the paper represents. "We are handling more bogus checks at this time than I have ever known before," remarked a Bamberg banker the other day, who added that in that bank alone anywhere from six to-a dozen checks are handled every day that are no good. The practice of checking on bank accounts which are deficient of balances has grown steadily in the past few years and the present money stringency probably has a lot to do with the avalanch6 of bogus checks being drawn now. New York, Nov. 2.?After she had bexen arrested accused of placing her seven months old boy on a red hot stove, Mrs. Grace Randall told the Brooklyn police tonight that her husband, whom she loves "better than anything in the world" had 'treated her coolly," since the child was born. The child, taken from the top of a stove by police whom neighbors summoned, may die from its burns, hospital physicians said. The husband is serving a sentence in jail. His Chief End in Life. There lived in an English town a wealthy but exceedingly "tight" old lady, who kept very few servants and t)aid' them as little as possible. Among these was an underfed, miserable looking lad of fourteen, who answered the door, did the dishwashing, waited at the table, weeded the garden, washed the dog and a few other things. One day a visitor asked this lad: i "Well, my boy, and what do you do around here?" "I do a butler, a kitchen maid and j a gardener out of a job," replied' the * Day.
