LOOKING FOK HUSBANDS!).
English Women En Koute to New
Zealand With Matrimonial Intent.
The good ship Tainui, flying the
British flag, left her moorings here
today oil the second leg of her journey
for a matrimonial paradise for
200 young women, according to a
Norfolk, Va., dispatch of last Thursday.
The Tainui is bound from London
via the Panama Canal to New
Zealand, where the young women
hope to find husbands.
"We are going to New Zealand to
get married, if we can find husbands,"
said Miss Ruth Mace, one of the women.
"We are not looking for wealthy
men. We want to build up a home
and a good nation. We are willing
to share troubles. We will do our
share of the work and we want above
all to be real women."
? ~ ? i
Miss Mace said tbe zuu women uu i
the Tainui was the first large ''draft"
to leave England in search of mates.
"There are few marriageable men
in England," she said. "Most of those
who could get married don't want to
burden themselves with a wife. They
find life too easy as it is understood.
An Englishman today is not like the
Englishman of 1913. They think only
of themselves. They do not want
to settle down and help build up ^
home. Their morals have undergone H
such a change that the girl has to be
very careful.
"Women, too, are not as modest as
they were and they are so overwhelmingly
in the majority they almost bid
for the attention of men."
Home Service.
A typical home service section case
is that of Arthur Green, one of
recent date settled. Some time ago I
I was informed that Arthur Green,
of Bamberg, was desirous of vocational
training, claiming that injury
to his shoulder from a shell shot
wound prevented him from doing J
any heavy work. I was requested to
investigate the case and see whether
or not his disability was sufficient
handicap to entitle him to training,
and to ascertain whether he was receiving
compensation.
Aftpr snmft time I located Arthur,
and upon interviewing him got the
, following information: Arthur
Green, colored, served in the late
world war; spent 104 days in the
trenches, and came safely through!
"Phosgene missed him but 'laughing
gas' found a willing victim." Ar- {
thur stayed nine months in France, t
Since discharged he has been employed
at firing a boiler at J. Frank Jennings's
mill. He says that he can
not lie on his right side, and that
cloudy weather affects his shoulder,
causing some pain.
? The above information was forwarded
to headquarters, whereupon
I was requested to help Arthur fill
out necessary papers and have statements
sworn to before a notary public.
I was also requested to secure
marriage record for Arthur. Upon
investigation it was reported that no I
?uch marriage was on record, the law I
applying to such a case being of quite "

had played him a trick each time,
Coughlin wrote the name on a piece
of paper, pinned it to his coat lapel,
and secured the "life sentence" certificate
number seven.
The family upon which Coughlin's
affections centered?Hurst by name?
included three daughters. His trouble
was that he failed to remember
whether it was Ethel, Fannio or Ma bel
when he arrived at the county
judge's office on the six successive
occasions.

Instructions were next issued for
Arthur's physical examination. This
request was complied with by Dr.

degree of disability was determined
to be temporary partial 10

an award in accordance therewith
is made which entitles Arthur
