Thursday, Sept. 16,1920 Sheriff Kay Makes Denial. The statement has been published in some of the daily newspapers that Sheriff Ray refused to serve the warrants in the now famous "Mayfield kidnaping case." The sheriff states that this is entirely erroneous. He says that the warrants in this case were never placed in his hands, and ^ ~ V.o^J nnthinor ^ with tile 11C iicio uau case* in any way, and he feels that a grave injustice has been done him in the publication of* such a statement. He has written the papers requesting that a proper correction be made, and that he be furnished with the name of the informant. The sheriff says that it is a reflection on his official character to state that he refuses to serve any warrants that may be placed in his hands, whether parties are innocent or guilty, as that is a matter not for him to decide. i?i m Death of Mrs. Rutland. .Mrs. Emma Rutland, wife of O. B. Rutland, died at her home in this city Friday night, following an illness of everal weeks. The funeral and interment took place near her former home at Norway Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Rutland was 38 years of age. Before her marriage she was a Miss Kirkland, of Norway. She is survived by her husband and five children and several step-children. She was a member of the Baptist church and an estimable Christian woman. IX MEMORIAM. In loving memory of my dear nephew, Phillipp Bamberg Murphy, who entered eternal life September 13th, 1919.
