Denmark, June 12.?One of the!
most pleasant social events of the
week was the "Rose Shower" given j
by Miss Clara Wyman, in honor of j
Miss Louise Zeigler, a June brideelect.
The rooms of the lower floor j
were thrown en suite and were beau-'
tifully and artistically decorated in i
rose and white. When the guests had \
assembled, several musical selections,!
appropriate to the occasion, were!
rendered by Mrs. J. K. Mayfield and
Miss Lillian Goolsby. Among the selections
were "Always,*' "Japanese!
Love Song," "When Love Is Kind."
and "Mighty Like a Rose." Immediately
following there was an interest-1
ing contest in which Miss Annie Mae!
Griffith was the successful contestant,}
winning a lovely box of stationery |
which she gracefully presented to the!
honor guest, Miss Zeigler. The main i
feature of the occasion, however, was
the improvised rose garden into j
which the guests were invited to
watch the bride-elect, trowel in hand, j
dig in the soil (sawdust) for the
gifts presented by her friends. The
digging proved very fruitful, for she
unearthed a bountiful, miscellaneous
assortment of things which always
delight the heart of a bride to be.
While the guests were admiring and
discussing these, delightful refresh-!
ments of ice cream and cake were1
i
served, in which the color scheme was!
.still carried out.
Miss Doris Goolsby, who teaches in!
in Hartsville, has returned home for j
the summer months.

public schools.
Mrs. R. A. Goolsby and Mrs. Winchester
Graham delightfully entertained
the seniors of the high school
and their friends on Tuesday evening
at the home of the latter. Quite a
number of guests was present and
the evening was spent in games, pro-1
gressive conversation, etc. From a j
bower on the spacious veranda delic- j
ious punch was served throughout
the evening. Later elegant refreshments
were served.

Olar, June 13.-?The Eighth District
.Medical society will meet in Allendale
on Wednesday, June 23. At
the last meeting of the State .Medical
association in Greenville the districts
were rearranged, and this district is
now composed of the following counties:
Aiken, Bamberg, Barnwell, Allendale
and Hampton. A large per
cent, of the physicians of this district
will attend and several visiting
doctors, among whom will be Dr. \V.
P. Timmerman, president of the
South Carolina Medical association.
A very interesting scientific programme
is being arranged and doubt,
less nothing will be left undone toward
making this a very enjoyable
occasion for the doctors who attend.
Khrhardt Downed by Branson.
Ehrhardt, June 8.?The Brunson
base ball team shut out Ehrhardt yesterday
at Brunson by the score of 4
to 0. On account of the absence of
two of its players Ehrhardt was forced
to use two substitutes in a shifted
line-up. This caused the rumor in
Brunson that the visitors were coming
with most of "Cincinnati's stars
besides Babe Ruth," so Brunson was
ready. Purcell, the leader of Ehrhardt's
staff, pitched a Mglit game,
striking out thirteen men and allowing
but three hits, while Brunson's
hurler struck out four and allowed
the same number of hits.
