DON'T LIKE MASKS.
Positively Refuse to Wear Them in
Theatres.
Columbia, Feb. 22.?Masks as a
protection against influenza germs
are not the least bit popular in Barnwell,
according to a telegram received
bv the state health department
yesterday from A. B. Patterson, chairman
of the Barnwell board of health.
The chairman wires as follows:
"The local health board has passed
regulations with regard to influenza
requiring the wearing of masks in
theatres and barber shops. Patrons
will not wear masks. Advise me how
to compel them to do so and enforce
the regulations."
Dr. C. V. Akin, assistant state
health officer, communicated with
Barnwell with regard to the matter
and it seems that the town has not
been quarantined. School children,
. j it seems, wear the masks as a precauv
tionary measure against the disease.
Unless the disease becomes prevalent

ties will probably act only in an advisory
capacity.
Masks were worn to some extent
during the fearful epidemic in 191819,
but they somehow gave the wearer
a slightly dissipated appearance,
and some of them were of such size
. that the wearers seemed to be suffer4
* r
ing from toothache and unmasked
pedestrians were sometimes inclined
to poke fun at the wearers asking
such frivolous questions as "Who hit
you on the jaw?" Masks also caused
no little inconvenience to tobacco
smokers and to see a confirmed chewer
attempting to adjust his mask
while expectorating was a never failing
source of amusement to wayfarers.

J. H. Murphy, farmer, Elm St.,

Pills for several years, but 1
clearly remember the good I derived

had a lameness in my back and my
kidneys were disordered, causing me
much annoyance. I used Doan's Kidney
Pills and they completely cured
me of this trouble and put my kidneys
in good shape again, so I am
glad to endorse this remedy. Anyone
