New Trial Granted.
Columbia, Nov. 28.?Claiming that '
the absence of the motorman, Robert <
O'Quinn, from the trial jeopardized <
the interests of the defendant, the
State Supreme Court today granted
to. the Charleston Consolidated Railway
and Lighting Company a new
trial in the damage suit brought <
against it for the injury to Robert P. 4
Ilderton, Jr., at Charleston in April,
1917.
Young Ilderton was injured by a
car driven by O'Quinn who could not
testify at the trial because he was
'with the Thirtieth Division in France
when it was heard. 4

??? j
Denmark, Dec. 2.?The American!
Telephone and Telegraph company!
has recently purchased a business!
block on Palmetto avenue on which
they expect to erect a modern office
building and it is understood that
work will be commenced on the same
just as soon as the building material t
Is received. The local representatives
of the company say that the building I
will be one of beauty and will costj
between $75,000 and $100,000, and j
will be three stories high, providing
space for all departments, such as;
imDloement room, oneratine- rooms i
lunch room, rest room, etc. The telephone
company operates practically
all the telephone and telegraph systems
in this section of the country
and the plant at Denmark is the largest
of its kind in South Carolina. At
this office there are about fifty people
employed by the company and the
announcement that a permanent
home for the American Telephone
and Telegraph company is soon to be
erected was gladly received by every
one, for it means a great deal toward
the development of the town.
