Government Likely to Prosecute the
"Messenger."

Washington, Nov. 15.?Congressman
James F. Byrnes, of the Second
South Carolina district, has received
a letter from Attorney General Palmer
informing Mr. Byrnes that on instructions
from the department of jusitce
the district attorney at New York
and secret service are continuing investigation
of the charges that the
"Messenger," a periodical published
in the alleged interest of the negro
people of the country, has been unlawfully
inciting them to acts of violence
against the law.
j The attorney general expresses the
opinion that from the developments
of the investigation the government
will be able to present a case in the
courts against the publication.
