FOUXI) NOT GUILTY. i Dunbar, Kirk land and Lewis Acquit-! ted of Murder of H. 1>. Marley. Allendale, Oct. 12.?George D. Kirkland, John Dunbar and E. C. Lewis, charged with the killing of H. D. Marley, at the Marley home, Matthew's Bluff. Allendale county, May 29, last, alter Maney had shot to death James \V. Hogg, a prominent Allendale county farmer, were declared "not guilty" last Friday by a jury empannelled for their trial. The case consumed about three days and attracted wide attention. Because of the prominence of the men concerned in the double killing ?*+ Matthew's Bluff, where the de Civ. v? fendants in the trial, accompanied by James W. Hogg and a number or friends, had gone for a fish dinner, and the subsequent developments, attracted wide attention. Immediately following the double killing the only reports obtainable were to the effct that Hogg and Marley had killed each other in a row over a dog. However, this report was refuted the following day. Among the other murder cases tried at this session was that of W. Green Williams, charged with the killing of J. C. Harley. Williams was also acquitted. Harley was killed in a duel with Williams in the grocerystore of Spann & Patterson, Allendale, about 10 o'clock Saturday night, several weeks ago. Although evi-1 dence was introduced at the inquest and at the trial showing that shots were fired in this affray other than those from the guns of Williams and Harley, it hes never been ascertained who fired the mysterious shots. SUGGESTS 50-CENT COTTON. Wannamaker Optimistic over lonon Conference. \ Columbia, Oct. 10.?J. Scottowe Wannamaker, president of the American Cotton Association, left tonight for New Orleans, where he goes to attend the world cotton conference, which will be held next week. Mr. Wannamaker will speak before the conference on the subject, "Why the Producer Must Receive a Fair Price For His Product." He is also chair. man of one of the important committees of the conference. Mr. Wannamaker said today that some of the leading spinners of the world would be before the committee - on price and production. He said that if the committee did not agree on 50 cents as a fair price for cotton there would be a minority report filed. Before leaving tonight Mr. Wannamaker gave out a statement urging that the work of organization be pressed in every county in the State. The other States are progressing splendidly with their organization campaigns, he said, and the American Cotton Association will be in a position to enforce its demands for a fair price for cotton. COTTON FIRE IN ROCK HILL. t . Several Hundred Bales Destroyed Sunday Night. Rock Hill, Oct. 12.?Fire broke out 7 here tonight at 10 o'clock in the central section of the John T. Roddey , cotton warehouse and several hundred bales of cotton belonging to the ' Victoria mills were consumed. The loss will mount into thousands of dollars. Full insurance was carried on the cotton, however. There were over 600 bales stored in the section of the warehouse which caught fire, but a considerable portion of this will be salvaged. Heroic work of the city fire department kept the flames from spreading to other sections of the warehouse, which is located only a short distance from the Southern railway passenger station. The trestle at the north end of the station caught fire several times, but the blaze was easily extinguished. At 12 o'clock tonight the cotton is still burining, but the flames are apparently under control. ESCAPING CONVICT KILLED. Chaingang Guard Shoots Fred Ryan to Death.
