Ir. Wilson Long: Way From Recovery
Washington, Oct. 11.?Hope that
Resident Wilson soon might regain
ds normal health and resume fully
he duties of his office was swept
way today by his physicians who
nnounced that it would be imposible
for him to leave his bed for an
xtended period.
The announcement said that there
ad been no interruption of the presient's
slow improvement, but he still
ad a long road to travel before he
eached complete recovery.
The constitution provides that in
ase of the president's disability the
ice president shall act as chief excutive,
but there is no precedent
3r such a transfer of authority and
fficial opinion is divided as to how
: might be brought about should the
ecessitv arise.
The physician's announcement was
ot taken to mean that Mr. Wilson
ill be prohibited from sitting up in
ed and it was considered entirely
ossible that he might be permitted
o sign a few important bills and
rders each day as his progress coninues.
That will be a matter, howver,
which those attending him must
ecide as time goes by.
At. 9:45 last night the following
ulletin was issued by Dr. Grayson:

VERDICT MANSLAUGHTER.
; In Case of Negro Girls Who Killed
i Their Father.
i Florence. Oct. 12.?The jury in
- the case of the State against Lillian
and Rebecca Myers, charged with the
i murder of their father, Sylbert My>
ers, returned a verdict of guilty of
. manslaughter, with recommendation
; of mercy. Judge Mauldin sentenced
. the two negro girls, who are about 1 4
t and 10 years old. to two years each
: of oimli ldlinr nc thpv n nprfnrm in
: the Florence county jail. In passing
[ sentence Judge Mauldin took occas
ion to compliment Messrs. Marshall
Bridges and P. H. Arrowsniith, who
' were appointed by the court, upon the
able manner in which they defended
the accused girls.
The case, becaifse of its horrible
details, attracted'large crowds to the
court room. The venire having been
exhausted, attorneys for the defense
and the solicitor agreed to go to trial
with only nine jurors.

Pat Moran's athletes invaded hostile
territory today and annexed the
eighth and deciding game against
the Chicago White Sox by a' score of
10 to 5.
As expert baseball it was as funny
as a> sack race. Nearly everything
possible happened, including a comic
four run rally by the athletes in the
pale hosiery. Tt never would have
happened just as it did if the sun had
not entered the lists and blinded the
visiting fielders. Tt was all the funnier
for the reason that the Sox were
nine runs behind at the time.
