The Herald wishes each and every
one of its readers and patrons a mer
ry Christmas and a happy new year.
The past year has brought forth much
for which to be thankful, and everybody
ought to be happy. The year
has also brought forth much sadness,
but we trust that our troubles are
over, and that the next year will be
a prosperous and happy one for all.
On account of the fact that the
ootton mill, from which The Herald
office derives its day electric current,
will close down Monday night for the
holidays, the next issue of The Herald
will be printed next Monday afternoon.
Advertisers and others de*
siring notices in the paper will kindly
make note of this. All copy for
" the next issue of The Herald must
be in our hands by Monday morning.

Sou^h Carolina figures in about everything
that goes on in this world.
It took the Thirtieth Division, composed
largely of South Carolina boys,
to show those Germans what a real

soldier was, and then when the president
went to church in Paris the
' v / other day, he heard a sermon by one
of South Carolina's foremost preachers,
Bishop Guerry, of the Episcopal
church. The bishop has been in Europe
for some time doing war work

attended the president's own church,
Presbyterian, anfl in the afternoon
they went to Mrs. Wilson's church,
she being a member of the Protestant
Episcopal church.

The Herald today presents to its
readers a fine line of advertising, and

themselves half to death because the
' president has gone to Europe to attend
the sessions of the peace conference.
Now, you need not lay in

bed at night and lose sleep over
Woodrow Wilson. It won't do
. any'good, because if Woodrow sets
his head on attending the peace conference,
attend the peace conference
he will, and we don't imagine he
is losing much sleep over what some
Republicans think about it. Also, if
it were not necessary for him to go,
he would not have done so. For our
part, we long ago quit having any
doubts about anything that Wilson
does. Wilson will prove himself
right, and you will find that you were
silly to question his acts; so the best
thing to do, when you read that the
* president is going to do this or that,
(is to join in and support the president,
putting confidence in him for
all that you don't know, which is usually
a good deal, about his reasons
for doing it.

of war savings stamps. They increase
in value one cent every month.

in the case of C. F. Rizer, plaintiff,
vs. A. W. Bishop, et al., defendants,
the undersigned will sell at
public auction, to the highest bidder
for cash, before the Court Hohse
door, at Bamberg, S. C., on the 6th
day of January, 1919, the same being
legal salesday, between the legal
hours of sale on said day, the following
described land, to wit:
All that certain tract, piece or
parcel of land, situate in the county
of Bamberg, State of South Carolina,
containing sixteen (16) acres,
more or less, bounded as follows: On
the north by lands now or formerly
of the estate of C. Ehrhardt, deceased,
on the east by lands of Paul D.
Bishop, south by lands of Mary E.
Bennet and 0. F. Bishop, and on the
west by lands of J. C. Bishop.

TAX NOTICE.
The treasurer's office will be open
for the collection of State, county,
school and all other taxes from the
15th day of October, 1918, until the
15th day of March, 1919, inclusive.
From the first day of January,
1919, until the 31st day of January,
1919, a penalty of one per cent, will
be added to all unpaid taxes. From
the lst^ day of February, 1919, a
penalty of two per cent, will be added
to all unpaid taxes. From the 1st
day of March, 1919, until the 15th
day of March, 1919, a penalty of 7
per cent, will be added to all unpaid
taxes.
