Ehrhardt Etchings. ^ Ehrhardt, July 30.?Mrs. P. W. Thomas, of Smoaks, spent part of last week with her sister, Mrs. A. W. Kinard. Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Kinard, Mr. and Mrs. G. J. Herndon, and Mrs. Alma Owens spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Herndon. Miss Bertha Kinard spent a few . < days with Mrs. W. R. Goodson. Miss Thelraa Goodson, of Ulmers, is spending a few days with Mrs. Pollie Goodson. We are sorry to report the extreme . illness of Mrs. W. B. Moore and Mr. D. E. Fender. Hope for - - them an early recovery. A certain young man will have to be more careful how he hitches his horse or he will have a job without going to the call to the front. Mr. and Mrs. Menner Sandifer, of Bamberg, spent last Thursdav with K MORE TROOPS IX EUROPE. Another Contingent Arrives Safely Somewhere in Europe. A European Port, July 28.?Another American contingent has safely arrived and disembarked. The American troops arrived by the same steamer whereon Kermit Roosevelt, his wife and child traveled. When tenders went alongside the vessel Friday the men were in high spirits and frequently shouted: "Are we downhearted?" The question was answered with a roaring "No!" given with great enthusiasm. Representatives of the general staff watched the disembarkation. There was no civic demonstration. Only a few spectators Knew 01 me lanamg. These cheered and the troops cheered back. The men entrained quickly and left for their new quarters. A signal company remained at the port for some hours and these were the only representatives of the contingent which the public saw. Hit and Run. "When \ arose to speak," related the martyred statesmanl "someone threw a base, cowardly egg at me." "And what kind of an egg might that be?" asked an attentive listener. Smith spent last Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Rentz. Miss Grace 'Hoffman has returned from Rock Hill, where she attended the summer school. Misses Pollie and Essie Carter are spending some time with relatives at Walterboro. Clear Pond Callings. Clear Pond, July 31.?Mrs. Ernest Carter, of Augusta, is spending some time with her aunt, Mrs. J. R. Morris. Miss Audrey Simmons, of Ashton, visited relatives here last week. The folks of this and adjoining communities find it very pleasant to take a swim in the Clear Pond during these warm da vs. Messrs. Dan Dyches, of Hilda, and C. H. Harsey, of Wagener, visited friends in this section for several days last week. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Jones, of Walterboro, visited their brother, Mr. G. W. Folk, last week. They were here to attend the reunion of Company G, which was held at Bethesda church last Thursday. Rev. S. R. Haynes is to conduct i services at Crystal Springs Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Mr. Marion Royal, of Augusta, attended the reunion of Company G at Bethesda church last Thursday. He was a visitor at the home of Mr. J. R. Morris while here. Mr. Harry Richardson and sister, Miss Sallie, of Bamberg,-spent Sunday .with their sister, Mrs. P. K. Hughes. Miss Maymie Morris, who has been attending Osborne's business college in Au&usta, is at home for a short vacation. Mr. David Smoak and sister, Miss Lucia Smoak, of Branchville, were visitors at the home of Mr. G. W. Folk Wednesday and Thursday of last week. Messrs. Earlelle Black, 0. B. Nix, Shanton Hutto, and Monroe Rowell, of Hilda, visited Mr. Herbert Folk last week. Mr. Dubois, of Kumn, is nere on an extended visit to his brother, Mr. Joe DuBois. Mr. Fulton Drawdy, of Branchville, spent last Wednesday night with his sister, Mrs. J. B. Folk. Mr. and Mrs. Q. H. Sandifer visited relatives and friends in this section last week. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Folk and little H. M. Folk are away on an extended visit, to friends in the upcountry. Mr. J. J. Hughes has purchased an automobile.
