Suppose you were a pretty young girl and should fall into the river, ?J:- ~ Kon V in. ana a man sianumg uu uc uau. stead of jumping in after you, should take off his leg and throw it at you as you struggled in the water. You would think it a strange proceeding, wouldn't you? And in your amazement you would forget to drown, no doubt. This is just what happened in I Cleveland, Ohio, the other day. A [ girl fell into the river, as stated, j There was a man on the bank who I had a cork leg. It occurred to him, j in a flash, that if he should jump in| to the river to rescue the girl his ! cork leg would stay on top of the J water and it might force his head j under, and he could not rescue the I girl and might drown himself. So ; he just jerked off his cork leg and | threw it to the girl: She was great! ly surprised, of course, but she clung I to the cork limb, and in a few mini utes another man came along and | pulled her out. I There is no romance connected i with the story. There win De no ; wedding bells. The man with the cork leg has a wife and also several children and two or three grandchildren.?Anderson Mail.
