chase of a drink. He cudgeled his
brain and finally hit on a scheme.
Rushing into a drug store, he called 1
out excitedly:

sympathetic clerk, pouring out a liberal
quantity. "Ah, thanks." as lie;
gulped it down: "it always upsets me *

Threw Him in Again.
A dentist in a coast town was one
day standing on the pier, watching
the evolutions of some warships
when he accidentally toppled into the
water. Three young men who were
standing close by immediately plunged
into the rescue dnd hauled him
out.
On recovering his breath, he looked
admirably at his brave rescuers,
and, in a voice filled with deep gratitude,
he said:
"My brave fellows, how can I ever
repay you for your gallantry? Just
come along to my consulting rooms,
and I'll draw all the, teeth out of
your heads, and not charge a cent."
An Unprofitable Run.
"Your show was the worst we
have ever had before here," said the
manager of the Hickville Opera
house as he handed the manager of
the "Fly-by-Night" company his
share of the box office receipts.
"That's queer," said the manager
of the company. "Why, when we have
played in Chicago we had the longest
run in the history of the city."
"I'm sorry," replied the manager
of the opera house.
"Sorry about what?" demanded
the manager of the company.
"Sorry the audience abandoned the
chase," replied the manager of the

The lad who was applying for the
. job of office boy presented his credentials,
feeling sure that the covet,

A Great Distinction.
A garrulous attorney was arguing
a technical case before a judge in
Illinois. He had rambled on in such
a desultory way that it became very
difficult to follow his train of thought,
and the judge had yawned ominously
once or twice.
Whereupon the long-winded lawyer,
with a trace of sarcasm, said:
"I hope, your honor, I am not unduly
