Still the biplane climbed upward,

The colonel beside me shook the
loulder of a captain shouting, "Give

The. captain, trembling with exciteent,
contended himself with exaiming:
"It's marvelous?marveus.
brave. He is going to get it?
i is hit. No, he is keeping on."
The crowd yelled. Some of the j
?ople applauded and others had
ars in their eyes. All traffic stopid.
Back came the other Taube from
e attack upon the gas tanks. The
*ench biplane, caught between two
es. turned, all gilded with the sun?ht,
and charged toward the new
lemv. They were very close to one
lother, when the swift French maine
leaped above the German, still
ing. We heard the mitrailleuses
stinctly. In the meantime the

is rushing to the aid of its comde.
Then the French machine dropid
like a wounded bird, and we
perienced a moment heavy with

en hit. A thousand yards above
e earth it caught itself and began
rise again. But now a French
onoplane was seen coming to the
scue. and immediately, the Taubes
rned and disappeared.
The stre*et was wild with emotion,

that two workmen in the gas
