' o Chained With Obtaining Money Under False Pretenses. A warrant has been issued for E. l" C. Wells for obtaining money under ~ false pretences. The warrant was 11 sworn out by Dr. Lee Sanders. Wells came to this city several ' months ago and opened an office in the Bleckley building, to ^conduct a real estate business, but did not do much in that line. The office furni ture was recently ratten Daca on ac" count of nonpayment by the furni* ture house that sold it to him. Wells 8 left the city several days ago, leaving a number of unpaid accounts. Wells was once a Methodist preach8 er and served some churches in this county. A SINGULAR ACCIDENT. Sumter County Man's Eyes Closed by ^! Molten Metal. J Sumter, Sept. 13.?Mr. George * I Betts was the sufferer from a most j unusual and painful accident yesteri day, while working at Mr. W. G. Piers son's mill, several miles south of a town on the Manning road. The ac? cident occurred when Mr. Betts was 1 babbiting the bearings of the machin erv and an explosion took place, sendi ing up a splash of the molten metal - into his face, so that it covered the a eyes and closed them hard and fast, i putting him in complete blindness - until he could come to the Toumev i Hospital, where the metal was picked - out. > It seems that Mr. Betts was bendr ing over the machinery dropping the * * ' ' J?
