Thursday, Dec. 15,1910. No doubt the Walterboro legislajpr tive delegation, at the meetings held at Berea and Smoaks on Tuesday, told the tax payers of Warren townEpfe ship what a great economic propositi: tSon that proposed bond issue of $300,000 was going to prove. The Greenville Piedmont comments H: on the Pink Franklin case and quotes an article which is credited to the Or&V angeburg Times and Democrat. Just :to kPAu the record straight, we will ||i\ state that the remarks credited to the Times, and Democrat emanated from } the Bamberg Herald. The case of the unfortunate white | girt, Mary Harris, in Hampton counm ty, makes us think of the great efh forts put forth by the churches to raise money to send missionaries to j$i foreign countries when every cent could be expended to such good purpose right here at home. No church * I or charitable organization appears to V have paid any attention to this poor girl Yet we call ourselves Christi x ans and. con tribute money to convert . the heathen while such happenings I as these go on at our very doors. We | * firmly believe Christians will be held ?.\ to account for fanaticism just as sin^ ners will be for sin. ??-' Of course it is none of our bus-. inesft and we do not think for a mom U ent that they will appreciate our say| Ing so, but the men who are putg ting their money into a new daily H paper at Columbia* are going into a I losing venture. The truth is there J Is no room for another daily news|: paper in the capital city, and we can v see no good purpose in attempting to ' break down a business already established. If men who have money to r .throw away choose to sink a whole lot in a newspaper. for the sake of ^ what they think is a principle, why ^ that's their business. But there is no ^ room nor any general demand for the paper, as we see it, and no good will come to anybody from the vent' (It seems that there should be some I-way to force the Southern Railway to run its trains somewhat on time. For the past week or so the train going to Augusta in the mornings, due here at 11:08 a. m., has been arriving anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half late. This has caused the people on the rural routes to miss their mail off this train, as the carriers cannot wait until the arrival of the train and make their routes. The leaving time of the carriers is 11:30, but often they are held here until twelve o'clock or later, but for several days recently they have had to leave without the mail from the last morning train. We hope the committee on trailroads of the business league will take up this matter vigorously and see if they cannot do something in the way of making the railroad run its trains somewhere near the schedule. Accused of Counterfeiting. Albany, Ga., Dec. 12.?Charged with counterfeiting or passing counterfeit silver dollars, Silas Cox and Mrs. Nora Bass, white, both of Mitchell county, who were brought to Albany yesterday by United States Deputy Marshal Norton and arraigned before W. W. Crews, United States commissioner, were bound over after several witnesses had been BjBjjjjr - examined, bond being fixed at $500 each, in default of which both today were sent to jail. Cox was locked up here and Mrs. Bass was sent to the Lowndes county jail, at ValIpfer/;.: . ; . .. ; v. . . .. . ... .'"v.:..-V - ' ' ~ ..
