A number of representative farmers
from different sections of the
county were here Tuesday to attend
the meeting addressed by Mr. Harris,
president of the Farmers' Union.
For good reasons no meeting of the
Civic Association was held last Thursday
afternoon. The Association will
meet this (Thursday) afternoon, in
Fitting School Chapel, at 4 o'clock.
Mr. S. W. Clayton, of the Colston
section, brought us this week a sample
of sugar which he made from sugar
cane. While the sugar was brown,
still it was very nice to the taste, and
was as nice and clear as could be
made without refining.

the rural routes out of Bamberg, has
bought a neat little mail wagon to
use in serving the patrons on his
route. It is a nice arrangement, and
is the kind used by rural carriers all
over the country. It is a regular little
house, and he can keep dry in all
sorts of weather.
Engineer Employed.
Mr. Lyon, the engineer employed
by the board of public works to draw
plans and specifications for the water
works system, was in the city last
Friday with his assistant. The matter
was gone into by these gentlemen,
and plans will be drawn at once.
They will be ready in the next week
or so, and bids for the construction
of the system will be advertised for
as soon as possible. Our people can
rest assured that the board is pushing
this matter as rapidly as possible.
Raise in Price.
After February 1st, 1908, the price
of the semi-weekly News and Courier
will be 75 cents a year instead of
fifty cents, in connection with The
Bamberg Herald. Therefore the two
papers will cost you $1.75 after that
date. We have been pushing this
clubbing arrangement, and all subscribers
who want to renew, can do
so before February 1st at the fifty
cents rate.
Card of Thanks.
Our friends were so very kind to
us during the illness and death of our
little one, and so many helped us in
so many ways that it is impossible to
see each one personally. We therefore
take this method of saying to
them one and all that we are indeed
grateful, and we appreciate it more
than we can say. , We can only say
we thank you from the depths of our
hearts. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Moye.
Examination for Stenographer.
The examination for a stenographer
for the second judicial circuit will
be held in Aiken the 6th instant.
There are several applicants for the
position, among them beiDg Mr. H.
N. Bellinger, of this city. We trust
he will receive the appointment, for
he is one of the most competent and
careful stenographers that we know
of. ' We have printed a number of
briefs from notes which he transcribed,
and his copy is punctuated correctly,
neatly typewritten, and in fact
he gets out copy which is ready for
the printer and needs no correcting,
and we cannot say this for any other
stenographer whose copy we have
handled. \
Our Advertising Patronage.
The Bamberg Herald certainly ap
predates the liberal advertising patronage
it has been receiving this fall
from the merchants of Bamberg. We
feel sure that they appreciate good
service, and the fact that they change
their ads. often shows that they are
progressive and enterprising, as well
as having bargains to offer. We hope
that they will continue this patronage,
so that we may print a semiweekly
paper after the first of January.
Mr. Camp Here Saturday.
Will deliver his great lecture on
"Truth and Shams" at Carlisle Fitting
School auditorium on December
5th.
Every man, woman and child in
Bamberg ought to avail themselves
of the opportunity of hearing this
great lecturer on this great subject
Saturday night. We know that we
are all more or less inclined to think
that we're too tired to go out on Saturday
night, but this lecture will do
us good and pay for any sacrifice we
have to make in the way of personal
feelings.
Mr. Camp comes endorsed by some
of the most prominent men of the
South as an orator of unusual power,
eloquence and personality. And all
who hear this lecture will doubtless
enjoy a rare treat.
The management has reduced the
admission to 35 cents and placed the
hour at 9 o'clock so as to give every
body, who may desire, an opportunity
of attending.
Meeting of Farmers.
Under the call published in this
paper last week, a meeting of the
farmers of this county was held in
the court house here Tuesday at 12
o'clock. The meeting was presided
over by Mr. W. R. Parks, member of
the executive committee of the Farmers'
Union. Mr. B. Harris, State
president of the organization, made
an address outlining the work of the
Union and speaking of diversification
of crops, etc. There was a right good
crowd present, and the speaker was
given close attention.
A meeting for the purpose of organization
will be held here at some
date in January, the exact time not
having yet been fixed, and at this
meeting it is hoped that not only will
a large number of farmers be present,
but that other business men will
show their interest in the welfare of
the agricultural class by their presence.
All will be cordially welcomed.
After the meeting, Messrs. Harris
and Parks called at our office, and
we were indeed glad to see them.
They thanked us for the notice given
in our paper of their meetings, and
told us many things o< interest in regard
to the Union. They expect a
large crowd at the organization meeting,
and there is every reason for the
farmers to combine.

ACT QUICKLY
Delay Has Been Dangerous in Bamberg.
Do the right thing at the right
time. -utfMSHwn
Act quickly in times of danger.
Backache is kidney danger,
Doan's Kidney Pills act quickly.
' Cure all distressing, dangerous
kidney ills.
Plenty of evidence to prove this.
I J. D. Pressey, living near Court
House, Barnwell, S. C., says: "several
years ago I had an attack of typhoid
fever which left my kidneys in
a weakened conditioii. The past year
they seemed to become worse and I
was bothered to quite an extent by
a frequent desire to pass the kidney
secretions, especially at night. I
also had pains through the small of
my back and at times felt nervous.
Upon learning that Doan's Kidney
Pills were a cure for such troubles,
I purchased a box. They so effectively
cured me that I have had no
trouble from my kidneys since. I
j give Doan's Kidney Pills my highest
endorsement."
