SHORT LOCALS.
Brief Items of Interest Throughout
the Town and County.
Good crowds from various parts
of the county have been in the city
this week attending court.
Considerable property is to be sold
by the Master here, on the first Monday
in December. See the ads. in
another column.
Miss Georgia Emma Jordan is nowteaching
the Pine Grove school, near
^Spring Branch. She has eighteen
'pupils, and likes her situation very
j much.
See Klauber's new ad. in this issue.
The big clearance sale is still
going on at his store, and he is quoting
prices which must interest care
ful buyers.
Pay your subscription to The Bamberg
Herald before January 1st. It
is likely to be $1.50 a year after that
time, but you can pay in advance now
at the $1.00 rate.
Up to this writing we have not
heard of any movement for the stores
to close Thanksgiving Day, but we
presume they will close, as that has
been the custom for some years.
"It is up to you" whether you do
% your trading through the McCaskey
system or the old, careless way. We
use the McCaskey.
< D. A. KINARD & CO.
Monday the hunters of this seqtion
wece happy, for the 15th was the
date when it was lawful to hunt partridges
in Bamberg county. As a
consequence a lot of powder is being
burned around here.
Rev. P. E. Monroe, pastor of the
Lutheran church at Ehrhardt, who
rocitrnAd tr? aooent the Johnston pas
torate, will leave for his new field of
labor next week. His many friends
hate to have him go.
See Hooton's new ad. in this issue.
Not only does he carry a superb line
of dress goods, trimmings, gloves,
etc., but his stock of underwear can't
be surpassed in the city. Note the
special prices quoted..
There will be Thanksgiving services
at Colston Baptist church next
Thursday. Preaching at 11 o'clock
in the morning by the pastor, Rev.
D. L. Roton, with dinner on the
grounds. All are invited,
v The Herald Book Store has opened
its line of Christmas goods. We have
toys for the children, picture- books
etc., and presents for everybody?
mother, father, sister, brother, sweetheart.
Come in and look at the line.
Looking entails no obligation to buy.
Beard's 5c and 10c store is certainly
doing the business. Come in
and see the great bargains we offer
in all kinds of goods.
A lot of news matter, set up for last
week's issue, had to go over until this
week because a lot of advertisements
came in at, the last moment.
Advertisers will please give us their
copy not later than Tuesday morning,
and cnanges or aas. mum tome iu
on Monday.
Unheard of bargains in hardware,
tinware, glassware, china, and in
fact almost anything you can call
for, at Beard's 5c and 10c store.
' /x . Rev. D. B. Groseclose, who feas
. ' ' been the successful pastor of the
Lutheran church at Leesville for the
past five years, has accepted the
unanimous call of the joint council
of the Mt. Pleasant pastorate, this
county. He will take charge of the
work at Ehrhardt about December 1.
When trading with us and you wish
to pay your bill and you are tired
and want to stay at home, a glance
at your McCaskey slip holder tells
you it can be sent to a penny.
? D. A. KINARD & CO.
See the new ad. of Jones Bros, in
* this issue. They have received a new
load of horses and mules, these
being selected in market by their
Mr. W. P. Jones, and this lot of anitnals
is an exceptionally fine load.
They are also offering their fine race
horses for sale. Note the records of
these horses, and if you want a
speedy mover, see them.
We are constantly receiving new
goods, which are all bargains. Come
in and see the line at Beard's oc and
10c store.
In Eatonton, Ga.. last week the race
horse, "Jeff McGregor." belonging to
Jones Bros., of this city won a purse
x of $500.00 in a race. His time was
most remarkable, he going a mile in
2.16, and the track was in a fearful
condition from mud and water. He
won several races with the track in
this condition, his time for any mile
not being more than 2.18.
New goods being received daily at
Beard's 5c and 10c store. Call and
see the great bargains.
Mr. F. F. Shores, local manager of
the Bell Telephone and Telegraph Co.,
is endeavoring to get the farmers
around Bamberg interested in rural
telephones. The plan of the Bell
Company works admirably wherever
it is in operation, and it gives farmers
in the country telephone service
at a nominal figure. Over at Allendale
a number of farmers have put in
the rural lines, which connects them
with the Alendale exchange as well
as the long distance lines of the company.
There are merchants who prefer
a system of "bookkeeping" which invites
errors. Those who adopt the
McCaskey system do so to avoid errors.
"Bookkeeping unkeeps accounts."
D. A. KINARD & CO.
The board of public works is going
ahead with the water works. They
have sold the bonds and have contracted
for 1,000 feet of fire hose.
The matter of an engineer is now being
considered, and one will be employed
as soon as an inspector for
the South-eastern Tariff Association
visits Bamberg and prepares specifications
for the system which will
give us a reduction in insurance
rates. It is the idea of the board to
put in a system which meets the requirements
of the Tariff Association
in every particular, so that there will
be a reduction in insurance rates.

Store in this issue. When you trade
$3.00 at his store you get an accident
policy lor $1,000 free.
The Woman's Christian Temperance
Union will hold its regular
monthly meeting next Tuesday afternoon
at 4 o'clock in the Baptist
church.
Bounce Miller, the negro who was
shot a iew weeks ago by William
Isaacs, another negro, in a gambling
row out in Varnville, is getting along
very well and will recover. The case
against Isaacs has been discontinued.
See G. Frank Bamberg's new advertisement
in this issue. He has a
fine lot of horses and mules in his
Btables, and will be pleased to show
them to you. Prices and terms right
as usual and remember nis guarantee
is back of everything he sells.
C. R. Brabham's Sons have just
received the swellest line of fine hats
for men ever shown in Bamberg.
They are the famous C. & K. line,
than which there is no better brand
of headwear for men on the market.
The line just received by this up-todate
firm em|f&ces stiff and soft hats
of all colors and shapes, all of the
latest styles. Careful dressers can
now secure their hats at home. They
need not order from the city dealers.
Rev. T. G. Herbert, pastor of Trinity
Methodist church, will leave next
week to attend the annual conference
at Laurens. Mr Herbert has only
served this charge one year, and that
our people are delighted with him
is a mild expression. He is a strong,
earnest predcher, a sympathetic and
devoted pastor, and is doing a work
here that will tell for generations to
come. It is the earnest desire of
his congregation that he be returned,
and there is no reason to think
that he will not be.

Trinity Sunday School.
Those who attended the session of
Trinity Methodist Church Sundayschool
last Sunday afternoon had an
unusuai pleasure, that of hearing a
piece of literature read in five different
languages, Spanish, German,
Greek, Hebrew and English. The
lesson for the day was the Twentythird
Psalm, and instead of having
the regular program a special service
devoted to the study of this
beautiful Song of David was arranged
and carried out with much success.
The auditorium of the church was
well filled by children and older members
of the school, and in addition
there were a large number of visitors.
No lessons were heard, but the record
was made for each class, and then
the school all took part in the Psalm
exercises. The day was profitably
spent, and was full of interest to
young and old alike.
The officers of Trinity School are
trying to make the school better and
more interesting than ever, and newfeatures
are being introduced from
time to time, but always the predominating
idea to make the study
of the Bible more interesting and
make the exercises full of praise to
the Great Giver of all good and perfect
gifts.
The program for last Sunday was
as follows:
Song, No. 44.
Prayer.
Song, No. 275.
Roll call, officers and teachers.
