The Civic Association would do a |f good work if they can succeed in i getting city council to abolish these restaurants on Main street and there by do away with the horrible odor of <?/;.: fish which assails the nostrils of pasi - sers by. The Aiken Recorder says that since the dispensary has been established in that county the advertising has been divided between the three' county papers, but since the Recorder and the Horse Creek Valley News opposed the dispensary in the recent election on the qustion of voting the Institution out of the county, the county board has taken the advertising away from these two papers and given it all to the Journal and Review. This is a serious mistake on the, part of the board, and one that will, react against them. Public officialscannot afford to attempt to punish' newspapers because of their opinions: on public questions. Newspaper men cannot be bought. Our friend of the Colleton News j seems to misunderstand the new territory matter. They do not want to move for sentimental reasons, but because they will be better off by coming into this county. There was no attempt to discredit the editor of The News by alluding to his lack of citizenship. He is no doubt as much interested in Colleton county as if he had lived there for many years, but being a stranger his ignorance of the people and their intentions is not to be wondered at. Fact is, we doubt if many of the citizens of the townships named are acquainted with him. TRIBUTE OF RESPECT. On Friday morning, August 14, 1908, the sweet, patient spirit of our beloved sister, Hattie Beard, passed peacefully away from the toils of earth to enter that rest which remaineth to the people of God. Out of respect to our beloved sister, we the members of Colston Branch Baptist church, desire to place on record this tribute to her memory. Resolved, first. That in the death of our sister our church has lost a consistent and devoted member, the community a kind and good neighbor, her husband a devoted wife, and her children a kind and affectionate mother. Second. That we bow in humble submission to the will of him who is too wise to err, too good to be unkind; and, furthermore, that each of us strive to live so that as we pass over the silent river it may be said of us as of her, that she has done what she could. Third. That our sincere condolence be extended to her devoted husband and each of her children in the loss of a loving mother and devoced wife. Fourth. That a page in our minute book be inscribed to her memory, and that a copy be sent to her family, and to each of the county papers for publication.. THOS. CLAYTON, Clerk Pro Tern. IN MEMORIAM. In memory of my beloved wife, Jane S. Counts, who departed this life the 16th day of October, 1905, three years ago to-day. Of all the heart-rending pain and suffering, gloom, loneliness, and despondency to which man has ever fallen a victim, there is none so great as that of the loss of a wife who has been so faithful, true, loyal, and just, to all the principles of virtue that constitute the noble deeds I of woman. j "Death has no terrors for the just, I 'Tis nature's law alike to all, The Angel beckons, obey we must, i The good fear not the final call." i T. There were pains in the small of my back, through the loins and at times I was bothered by the irregular action of the kidneys. The use of several remedies brought me but little relief and when I saw Doan's Kidney Pills advertised, I went to the People's drug store, and procured a supply. A1-' though I have not taken them long enough to justify a cure, from the results already received, I feel that it will be but a short time before sthis result is brought about. I hope that others who are afflicted in a similar manner will give Doan's Kidney Pills a trial." For sale by all dealers. Price 50 cents.
