The streets of Bamberg present a
lively appearance these days. Shopping
is going on at a lively rate, and
all our merchants appear to be doing
a good business.
See the ad. of D. A. Kinard & Co.
' \ in this issue.
The law firm of Messrs. Hendersons
have established a branch office
at Bamberg, in charge of Mr. Edward
Henry Henderson, a son of Mr. E. P.
Henderson and a young man of high
standing.?Aiken Recorder.
The county board of commissioners
held a regular quarterly meeting here
last Monday, but about the only business
transacted was the approving
of claims and granting a few applications
to be placed on the pauper list.
Guaranteed hosiery, "The Black
Cat,"^t W. D. Rhoad's.
Last Monday was the first Monday
in the month and salesday, but there
were no public sales and there was
not a large crowd around the court
house. A good many people from
the country were in town shopping,
however.
Mr. D. M. Eaves, depot agent, has
made a requisition for an electric
clock to be placed in the depot, and
it will be installed in a short time.
|sfv This will be a great convenience to
our people, as'it furnishes correct
time.
See the ad. of A. W. Reckling &
Son in this issue. They will be at
! Olar Thursday, Friday and Saturday,
October 15th, 16th, and 17th. Mr.
Reckling is a very fine photographer,

It is dry and dusty in Bamberg
now. Rain is much needed. Very
little rain has fallen in this county
since cotton began to open, and as a
consequence the class of cotton put
on the market here has been away
above the average. Very few bad
bales of cotton have been offered on
this market.

The Barnwell Baptist Association
X ; will convene at Springtown church on
Tuesday, October 22nd. All delegates
who will attend and who are coming
by rail, are asked to notify S. W. Sanr'V
difer at Bamberg or D. H. Rice at
Govan, in order that conveyances
may be provided to convey them to
4 the homes^ assigned.
Ymi Hnn't have to ask us for a
statement of your account which you

;-4' ' D. A. KINARD & CO.
The Bamberg Herald has received
a supply of campaign buttons. It has
a picture of William Jennings Bryan
k . on the front and the words: "I gave
my dollar; did you?" If you have
contributed your dollar to the campaign
fund, conie in and get one, or
come in and contribute a dollar and
let us pin a button on you.
If you deal with us you don't have
to ask from time to time about your
account. You know, and in your absence
it can't grow,
g* D. A. KINARD & CO.
The new teaching force at the
graded school have gotten down to
work, and work, and everything is
, working smoothly. Mr. Allen has
gotten affairs well in hand, and will
carry the school forward to greater
success, we feel sure. The enrollment
is increasing daily, and there
are a good number of students in the
commercial department. The wisdom
of establishing this department has
been clearly shown.
A penny pass book was in keeping
with the times when fires were lighted
with flint and punk. The McCas^
key accounting system and the electric
heater are of this age.
D. A. KINARD & CO.
Number of farmers are storing
their cotton in the warehouse of the
Bamberg cotton mills, as they do not
care to sell at present prices. The
warehouse is full, and others would
store if there was room. This is a
strong argument for a public warehouse
here, one built for the purpose
of storing the cotton of the public.
The cotton mill has its warehouse for
its own cotton, and often has not
the room for all the cotton offered
for storage from others parties. Let's
build the warehouse.

Day Current Soon.
At last the generator, which is to
supply The Bamberg Herald with
electricity in the day time, has been
shipped. It was shipped from the
factory on September 23rd, and we
hope it will arrive in a few days.
Then we will be in better shape to
take care of our constantly growing
business and to work to much better
advantage. We have certainly had
a hard time of it during the past few
months, much of this extra work being
caused by our having to run our
linotype and presses at night. Our
force has worked the job presses by
hand during the day and then run
them a good part of the night by
power. All the force from the editor
J ?? hoon hariiv overworked.
UUWLlf ULd ? ^ uvvii ?, - . _ _
but we look for easier sailing as
soon as we can get the generator installed.
Campaign Funds.
A. W. Knight, Decania Dowling
and Jno. H. Cope have been appointed
as a committee by Col. Wilie
Jones, State chairman of the Democratic
party, to solicit funds in this
county for the expenses of the
National Democratic campaign. The
election is only a few weeks away,
and whatever is done should be done
quickly. Those who wish to contribute
will please hand the amount
they wish to give to either one of
these gentlemen. We also have a
list at The Bamberg Herald office.
The chances for Democratic success
were never brighter, but money is
needed for expenses. The Democrats
do not get large contributions from
the trusts, as the Republican do, but
must depend on the people. Hand
in your contribution,' however small
Every little helps.
The Cotton Market.
Cotton sold in Bamberg to-day
(Tuesday) for 9% cents the pound.
The receipts for the past week were
about one thousand bales.
I want every lady or girl needing
a cloak to see my line before buying.
They are beauties and cheap.
W. D. RHOAD.
Bazaar.
The ladies of the Methodist church
have determined to hold a bazaar and
are planning to that end. This bazaar
will be held Dec. 2nd and 3rd
at some convenient place which will
be announced later.
Following is a list of committees
in charge of the various departments:

Mrs. G. Frank Bamberg.

Letter to J. F. Kilgus, Bamberg, S. C.
Dear Sir: If you should hake
bread that people like better than
any other, and at less cost by the day,
you'd have a pretty-good business,
wouldn't you?
We have just such a business as
that in paint; a gallon goes further
than any other gallon of paint in the
country?that's bread at less cost by
the day; but the difference isn't so
small as it is in bread. And a job
wears longer?that's bread at less

paint; it costs money to paint; and
they hate the fuss. They like our
bread by the year.
If your bread is better than anybody-else's,
and costs less too, you've
got a good trade; for people do like
good bread; and people like money.
It doesn't take long to find-out; give
'em time.
But you can't make better-thanany-body-else's
bread for half the
usual price for a breakfast can you?
Devoe is just such paint as that.
The price by the gallon or loaf is no
matter. Count by the day week
month year lifetime. Devoe is the
bread. We hope yours is as good.
Yours truly

Felder-Brown.
At the residence of the Rev. L. M.
Roper, D. D., last night, Percy E.
Brown and Miss Reaka Felder were
married, the ceremony being performed
by Mr. Roper. The happy
event was witnessed by a number of
friends of the bride and groom. The
