We wish some of our friends who
owe us money would come in and settle,
so that we can attend the press

we'd have to hire an extra bookkeeper

Misses Bessie Armstrong and Alice
Smoak, who took an irregular course
were awarded certificates of graduation
in English, History, Science,
and Mathematics. These young ladies
did very creditable work in the
high school department, and they
have our congratulations on the
completion of their high school education.
In the commercial department
Miss Juanita Kinsey, Nellie Kinsey,
and Lucille Lightsey received their
certificates of graduation in stenography
and typewriting. Miss Louise
Felder would have received her certificate,
but having accepted a position
in Columbia a month before the
completion of the course, she was
compelled to stop school before graduation.

numbered fifteen at the beginning
of the year.

president had any show, although
Speaker Cannon, Governor Hughes,
and others were nominated. It seems
that Roosevelt absolutely dominated
the convention, and those opposed to
the administration had no show
whatever. The whole proceedings
had the appearance of being machine
made, and if the Democrats
don't put up a good ticket and win
this year they will never do it.
Knocked Lad's Nose Oft".
Spartanburg, June 17.?While
playing base ball this morning,
James Earle, a young lad, had his
nose severed from his face by being
accidentally struck with a base ball
bat that slipped from the hands of
the batter. Physicians stuck the
nose back on, and it is believed that
the flesh will heal.

Carlisle Fitting School.
Editor The Bamberg Herald?I
should like space in your paper to
say that practically all arrangements
in the way of selecting the teachers,
matrons, etc., for next year at the
Fitting School have been completed.
As has been already announced,
Messrs. Guilds and Connor will teach
the same subjects as last year. Mrs.
Beach will be matron in charge of the
boys' dormitory, and Mrs. Hogan will
have charge of the girls' dormitory.
The department of musfc and elocution
will be taught by Miss Blocker,
of Tenn. From what I could
learn of this young lady, after careful
inyestigation, she is thoroughly
competent, and will enter fully into
the community life. She graduated
from Brenau Conservatory of
Music, and has taught successfully
three years, doing advanced work
two summers. She will give a public
recital, however, whtn she comes
in September.
There is one matter I have been
nvtn V>l/\ +/\ p/iff 1 o ooticfootnril v QnH
UliaUiC IU uutMiuvvvi f Muvt
that is the putting on of a teacher
for the sub-Freshman work. In order
to keep the high standard we
have established it will be necessary
to prepare some who come to us for
the work of the Freshman class. I
have in view an exceptionally fine
teacher for the primary work, and
will add the department if the patronage
will justify it.
I want to take this means of
thanking the people of Bamberg for
their support and more material evi|
dences of good will towards the
school during the past year. The
students have spoken in the highest
terms of the considerate way in
vjhich they have been received by
all. Of course there has been and
will always be indiscretions on the
part of the students. That is so ev
erywhere, and orten more so elsewhere
than here. But that is part
of the price. I am persuaded that
with a continuation of the moral and
material support of the town, and
more particularly the former,' the
school will move forward as never
before since its founding.
W. S. HOGAN.
Carlisle Fitting School, June 16,
1908.
Mr. Thos. Black, Jr., a son of Dr.
J. B Black, left Monday morning for

Hair and Dr. L. J. Mann. Mr. Thos.
Black will have the management of
the business, but Dr. Robert Black
will continue his practice here.
