It will be remembered that Bartley was one of the negroes tried for the killing of Willie Cutter, a white man, at Midway. He was found guilty and sentenced to five years in the peniten. tiary, Bartley is now out on bond, and he will either have to serve the sentence or forfeit his bond. * '* / ' ' * . ' This rainy weather makes things look blue for the farmers. Next Monday is salesday but there are no public sales to be held. Senator J. B. Black announces himself in this issue as a candidate for re-election. Mr. H. D. Free announces himself in this issue as a candidate for Magistrate at Bamberg. Rev. J. H. Graves, of Clemson College, preached at the Methodist church in this city last Sunday. Rev. E. C. See our line of black goods for skirts. It is complete. E. A. Hooton. Mr. Geo. Fogle died at his home near Denmark last Saturday. The burial took place at the Denmark cemetery Sunday afternoon. Mr. [ Fogle was about fifty years old, and was a prominent citizen of his community and county. He. leaves a wife and several children, as well as other relatives. Mr. Fogle married a sister of the late Dr. B. D. Bronson. He was a brother of Mr. J. J. Fogle. "Suesine," the new silk, at Hooton's in all shades. The corner stone of the Bamberg graded school building will be laid next Thursday afternoon,, May 7th, at 3:30 o'clock. ( Immediately after the exercises Governor M. t\ Ansel will deliver an address in the chapel of the Carlisle Fitting School. A letter has been received from the governor saying that he will surely be present. This will be a great occasion for Bamberg, and no doubt there will be a large crowd present. John Hunter Married. Mr. John M. Hunter, of Midway, Bamberg county, and Miss Zaidie Westbury were married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. I. K. Westbury, in the Grover section, at three o'clock Sunday af-. ternoon. Rev. R. W. Barber, of Grover, performed the ceremony. The young couple left on the evening train for their future home at Midway. The Eagle extends congratulations.?Dorchester Eagle. The above will be pleasant news to! Mr. Hunter's many friends. Heis a j son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Hunter, and is a most estimable young man. In common with other friends, The Herald extends congratulations and good wishes. Democrats Organize. A meeting of the Bamberg Demo cratic club was held in tne court house last Saturday afternoon at four o'clock. The old officers were reelected as follows: J. B. Black, president; J. D. Felder, vice president; C. B. Free, secretary and treasurer; W. S. Bamberg, member of the county executive committee. Executive committee: B. W. Miley, J. H. Hadwin, J. W. Stewart. Registration committee: R. W. D. Rowell, A. E. H. Simmons, A. W. Knight. The foil wing were elected as delegates to the county convention: Geo. F. Hair, H. M. Graham, J. D. Felder, H. C. folk, J. B. The many friends of Mr. David Felder and Miss Blanche Livingston were very much surprised when they returned to town last Sunday afternoon as man and wife. They were married Sunday morning about half past ten o'clock at the home qf Mr. George Dannerly at North, where the bride had been visiting for a week or | more. The ceremony was periormea by Rev. W. W. Willian. Shortly afterwards they took the Seaboard train and came to Denmark, and drove through the countryfrom there. Mr. and Mrs. Felder stole a complete march on their friends. As stated, the young lady had been visiting relatives at North fpr a short time, and Mr. Felder went up Saturday night. The wedding was a very quiet affair. They are at Mrs. Livingston's for the present. Mr. Felder is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. N. Z. Felder, and is a popular salesman in the store of the Peoples Drug Co. Dave has a host of friends among old and young, and they aire delighted that he has won such a sweet and winsome girl for his bride. She is the eldest daughter of Mrs. L. E. Black?Candidate's Card. H. D. Free?Candidate's Card. Investigation of Whiskey Purchase. An item in the Bamberg" Herald this week will result in investigation by the Richland county dispensary board. The item says: "In glancing over the list of recent purchases by ' the Richland county dispensary board ! we find that they paid $9.25 a case for Cream of Kentucky whiskey, bought from the I. Trager company, while the Bamberg county board paid $8.75 per case." . An examination of the bids submitted to the Richland county board yesterday showed that on Cream of Kentucky quarts a price of $9.25 per case was quoted 'and 25 cases were ordered at this price. It is possible that some mistake may have been made in the prices quoted Bamberg county but L. L. Bultman, the clerk of the'board, said yesterday that he would at once call the attention of mpmhers to the article and find out why thereshould be this difference in prices. The statement giVen each month by the Richland board is perhaps the most complete in the State. The number of cases they ordered, the firm purchased from, the price paid and the price at which the supplies will be sold are all given and for this reason mistakes or bids wrongfully submitted can be easily detected by those who keep up with such matters.?Columbia State. HeM for Mail Robbery. A preliminary was held in Orangeburg last Friday before United Sltates Commissioner Robert Lide in the case against Newton Muldrow, Enoch Reed and George Robinson, all colored, who were charged with stealing and rifling mail pouches at Blackville some time ago. The case was worked up by Postoflice Inspector S. W. Kingsmore. In default of $500 bail Muldrow was held for the Federal Court.
