Richard Mack, a negro man who
lives on Mr. Henry F. Bamberg's
t--\ plantation a few miles below town,
fr: killed an alligator on the 30th day
of December. The reptile was nine
$ feet long, and was crawling across
v: the road near Mack's house. Those
who ought to know say it is very ref
markable to find an alligator out of
the water after frost.

Are You Sure Your Kidneys
are Well?
Many rheumatic attacks are due to
uric acid in the blood. But the duty of
the kidneys is to remove all uric acid
from the blood. Its presence there
shows the kidneys are inactive. Don't
dally with "uric acid solvents." You
might go on till doomsday with them,
but until you cure the kidneys you will
never get well. Doan's Kidney Pills not
only remove uric acid, but cure the kidneys
and then all danger from uric acid
is ended.
Rupert B. Calvo, bookbinder, employed
at The State Publishing Co., official
printers for the State of South Carolina,
living at 1010 Lumber St., Columbia, S.
C., says: "I thought I had rheumatism
and treated for it on that belief. I used
all kinds of liniments. The pain was in
my back and in my hips clear to the
shoulders. The liniments did no good
and I took to blood medicines but they
did not help me. I took a long Jrip in
hopes that the change of climate might
help me. I was away for three months
but could see no change for the better.

Harry Hiers, Annie Rentz, Lionel
Clayton, Ryan Clayton, Laurie Kinard,
Jonelle Hoffman, Leroy Westerlund,
and Harry Copeland are on the
honor-roll for this week. Watch this
space next week, and see if any of
the names are familiar.
The deportment of the pupils is to
be commended, and the work done
in general is satisfactory, but if you
will examine the above list from
week to week you will find a few
pupils who make about one-half what
they should make. This is due to a
lack of diligence.
The attendance this week has been
fairly good, considering the fact that
school opened this year sooner than
usual.
Baptist Pastor Resigns.
Rev. A. J. Foster, who has been
pastor of the Bamberg Baptist church
for the past two years, has resigned.
Mr. Foster has been called to the
church at Allendale, but he has not
accepted as yet. He will remain in
Bamberg for a week or so yet. He
and Mrs. Foster have made many
warm friends in Bamberg, regardless
of denominational lines, and it is
witA* sincere regret that many of us
give them up. ?
City Council Meeting.
A regular monthly meeting of the
city council was held Tuesday evening,
with Mayor G. F. Hair and Aldermen
A. M. Brabham, H. H. Cope land, F. W.
Free, W. D. Rhoad, and J. A. Wyman
present. Alderman Cooner was absent
because he is not yet well enough to be
out at night. Messrs. Jno. H. Cope
and A. W. Knight, of the board of public
works, with Mr. .J. E. Salley, superintendent
of the electric light plant, appeared
before council and presented a
statement showing the financial condition
of the plant at the end of the first
year's operation. This statement showed
a profit of $1,076. The board also
asked for authority to buy a small engine
for the night run when practically
no lights are burning, it not being found
economical to run the large engine with
such a light load. Council passed the
necessary resolution and the engine will
be purchased. J
This was the most important business j
transacted by the council, the other
matters being the receiving of monthly,,
reports and routine business.
