this week on account of the death of
their mother.
?Mr. Jas. E. Salley spent Sunday
and Sunday night in Orangeburg,
returning Monday morning. Mrs.
Salley, who had been on a visit to relatives
in that city, returned with
him.
?Mr. H. W. Johnson went to
Lakeland, Fla., last week to bring
back Miss Ethel Gray, who had been
taken sick while on her way to that
town to accept a position as milliner,
She was carried to her home in
' Charleston.
A. C. Cannon has in his office an
account of cotton purchased by
Counts & Wilson, of Bamberg, S. C.,
August 30 to September 18, 1869.
The bales were as heavy as they are
now. They may buy a bale or more
each day. The price ranged from 25
to 31f. The best bale weighed 562!
and brought $174.22. The lightest
bale weighed 337 and brought $85.59.
There were 34 bales in all and the
amount was over $5,100. Such prices
would make one dizzy these days.? I
