We are forced to cut short the
railroad meeting and Fitting School
opening for lack of space.
The Cotton Market.
There seems to be a disposition
among our farmers to hold their cotton
for higher prices. The receipts
here for this week were six hundred
bales and upwards, and the price being
paid today is 11 \ cents the pound.
Cow Stolen.
Tuesday morning of last week a

wmte man, wno gave nib name as jk.
W. Williams and said he lived over
in Orangeburg county, approached
Mr. H. G. Delk to sell him a cow to
butcher. After some conversation
he promised to bring in the cow next
day, which he did, and Mr. Delk
paid him $17.50 for the animal.
Soon after the trade was consummated
a negro named Ed. Generett,
who lives near Orange Grove church,
a few miles below town, came in
looking for a cow which had been
stolen from his lot that morning, he
having tracked thr thief to Bamberg.
Mr. Delk at once turned the cow
over to the negro, he proving tne
property, and the police at once set
to work to capture Williams, but he
had left town. The man is a stranger
here, and nothing more has been
heard of him. In the meantime Mr.
Delk is out $17.50.

Mr. J. R. Owens, of Calhoun lodge,
Charleston. The lodge wants to purchase
some new regalia, and a committee,
consisting of C- B. Fowler,
B. W. Miley, and J. F. Carter, was
appointed to appear before city council
and request that a room for keeping
regalia be built.

The program for the week of
prayer, as observed by the Woman's
Home Mission Society of the Methodist
church, will be as follows: Subject

Fitting School Opening.
The opening of the Carlisle Fitting
School yesterday morning showed '
the largest enrollment of students in !
the history of the school, and the j
prospects for a most successful year ;
are very bright. The exercises were
well attended by the business men of
the town, thus showing the interest
they feel in the institution.
Headmaster Hogan presided and
introduced the speakers. Prayer was

Barnwell, and speeches were made by
Revs. Peter Stokes, T. C. O'Dell, R.
A.. Yongue, and A. J. Foster and J.
Aildrich Wyman, Esq.- The audience
was dismissed by Mr. Foster. All of
these gentlemen were especially happy
in their remarks, as they welcomed
the students and gave them
something to think about.
