A Newberry negro is alleged to hare had animosity towards a country merchant because that merchant made him pay $30 for a pair of shoes the negro stole. That statement may not appear clear to the general reader, but the meaning is that having detected the negro in the act of theft the merchant made him pay a dozen times the value of the goods stolen as a bribe against prosecution. That may not have been done in the Newberry case, but it is almost a common practice. It is not palatable for those guilty of this compromise with criminals to be charged with having accepted bribes to shield criminals from the law, but when stripped to the bare truth that charge will be found to be sustained." This practice is wrong and the wrong should be realized.?The State. Tyner's Dyspepsia Remedy. Do you belch up wind? Taste your food after eating? See specks before the eyes? Are you pale and haggard?
