?Mrs. Edward Carmichael, of Ocala,
Fla., and Mrs. S. B. Cates, of Waynesboro.
Ga., spent several days here last
and this week on a visit to Mrs. John K.
f Bellinger.
?Mr. J. E. Salley, superintendent of
the electric light plant, went to Orangeburg
Saturday and returned Tuesday
morning, bringing Mrs. Salley with him.
They will board at Mr. W. S. Hogan's.

Meeting.
^
The Union meeting of the Second
Division of Barnwell Baptist Association
met with the Eaisto Baptist
church on Saturday before the fifth
Sunday in September, 1906.
After a song by the choir and
prayer by Bro. E. H. Grason, Rev.
Wm. Baxley preached the introductory
sermon, after which the union
was called to order by the moderator,
Bro. J. B. Hunter. The roll of
churches was then called and the
names of the delegates enrolled. The
usual committee being appointed, it
was unanimously agreed that we adjourn
one hour for dinner.
After partaking of a magnificent
dinner which was prepared by our
' * Edisto sisters, we again repaired to
the church, and after a song by the
choir, the first topic on the program 1
was taken up.
Topic No. 1: "The why and of a
compact pastorate," was opened^ by i
Bro. D. 0. Hunter, followed by Rev.
Wm. Baxley, Bro. G. W. Folk, and
J. B. Hunter. Moved and unanimously
carried that we pass this
topic over, and take up topic No. 2:
"Shall the pastor give himself wholly
to the work, if so what shall be his
support?" was opened by Bro. G. W.
Folk, followed by E. H. Grason, D. j

following resolution was then offered
by Bro. Thos. Clayton:
Resolved, That it is the sense of
the union that we have a compact
pastorate, and that the pastor give
all of his time to the churches he
supplies, and that the churches composing
his pastorate see that he is
well paid for his services.
Committee on time and place made
its report, which was adopted. Place:
Bethesda Baptist church on Saturday
before the next 5th Sunday.
Committee on services made its
report, which was adopted. Sundayschool
mass meeting Sunday morning
at 10 a. m. conducted by Bro.
J. B. Hunter. Preaching at 11 a. m.
by Rev. Wm. Baxley. Sunday missionary
sermon by Rev. P. A. Bolen,
after which a collection was taken
up, which amounted to $3.00.

and citizens of Newberry county.
They moved hence to Missouri, afterwards
to California, where the father of
