Left Overs.
A certain young clerk entered a restaurant
and gave an order for a couple of
pies. Presently he began to grumble.
"What's the matter?" said the waiter.
"These pies are awfully dry and tough,"
responded the customer. "Young man,"
said the waiter seriously, "we made pies
here before you were born." "Yes," answered
the other, "and I fancy these are
some of them."
Settled.
i When a Scotchman answers a question
he settles the matter m aispuie once ror i
all.
On a certain occasion the question was
asked:
"Why was ^lary, queen of Scots, born
at Linlithgowz?"
Sandy Kerr promptly answered: "Because
her mither was staying there." |
A.nd there actually seemed to be nothing I
. more to be said on the subject.

Oar Lives as They Should Be.
3ar lives in this world are fnll of sin.
Many of them by drinking gin,
3ur example now and forever should be,
Friendship, love and liberty;
Friendship first and then we love,
ro praise our father who lives abovs.
ind if we do our duty right,
We have to battle in many a fight,
Laugh and scorn, a very great man,
But beat him out, I know you can,
rhe best of weapons we ought to keep,
For to lose them in sorrow we'd weep.
Do unto others as they do unto us,
A,s we all know would cause many a fuss,
But do unto others as we ought to do,
Would be a blessing to not a few;
Sod commands it, as every one knows,
rhe Devil prohibits it, as every one shows.
3incere love, with.faithful duty,
Lays the foundation for all the beauty,
Faith is strong but beauty is weak,
rhough pretty girls we are bound to ? eek,
By faith we walk and not by sight,
Sod's loving mercy both left and right,
ro sin is mean to God and man,
Rod's blessings are shown throughout
our land,
Unthoughtful are men, as all can see,
No thanks to God or humanity,
A.nd if we'd practice what we preach,
We would help all within our reach.
We join the church and think it best,
Which you know is God's request,
A.nd if to him sincere we'd be,
Many a crown in glory we'd see;
traitniui servants we ougni 10 nve,
For the many blessings he did give.

Credulity of Women.
Chairman Shonts, of the Isthmian canal
Commission said, according to the
tower part of the state press in illustration
Df woman's credulity:
"A young man entered the drawing j
room of the girl whom he was soon to
narry.
"The girl came down to meet him with
i severe frown on her pretty face.
"'John,' she said, 'father saw you this
morning going into a pawnbroker's with
i large bundle.'
"John flushed. Then he said in a low
7oice.
" 'Yes, that is true. I was taking the
pawnbroker some of my old clothes. You
see, he and his wife are frightfully hard
ip.' I
" 'Oh, John, forgive me!' exclaimed the
poung girl. 'How truly noble you are?'"
Already farmers in some sections of the
:ounty are getting uneasy on account of
the frequent showers.
