' Japan's Naval Rating.
On the eveof the war Japan's was the
^ smallest of the seven leading navies of
the world. The fleet of Russia, at that
?: time, was inferior only to that of Great
* Britain and of France. During 1903 Russia
spent on her fleet over $55,000,000,
V; while Japan for the whole of her navy
expended only about $11,000,000. Oonse'
-. quently Russia laid out in naval equipment
nearly five times as much as Japan,
whose naval fighting strength, at the be\
ginning of hostilities, was only half that
of Italy. Alexieff said, "The fleet of the
island kingdom is only an exotic which
we will cripple at the onset." In the anxiety
to impress Asia with her might, Russia
sent ponderous-looking men-of-war
- r to the far east, with too few mechanical
ratings, and with seamen who, in a confessipn
made to me by a Russian officer,
;' > v were only "agricultural laborers," not
only unused to sea life, but also unversed

NO MORE STOMACH TROUBLES.
Stomach trouble is removed by use of
Kodol Dyspepsia Cure. It gives the stomach
rest by digesting what you eat withv
out the stomach's aid. The food builds
up the body, the rest restores the stomach
to health. You don't have to diet
% yourself when taking Kodol Dyspepsia
Cure. J. D. Erskine, of Allenville, Mich.,
says, "I suffered heartburn and stomach
trouble for some time. My sister-in-law
had the same trouble and was not able to
eat for weeks. She lived entirely on warm
water. After taking two bottles of Kodol
Dyspepsia Cure she was entirely cured.
She now eats heartily and in good health.
1 am glad to say Kodol gave me instant
, relief. Sold by H. F. Hoover.

Politicians Must Dance in Wyoming.
"Wyoming has the most joyous political
campaigns of any State in the union,"
said Mr. F. M. Brandon of Cheyenne.
"The country people are never so
happy as when the candidates for public
office out our way are making their
rounds of the counties for vote getting
purposes; it means a season of excitement
and innocent pleasure to them,
which forbids all though of acrimony and
ill feeling no matter how tightly partisan
lines may be drawn. The chief factor

pirants to office it is always me custom 10
have a dance that pame night. Hundreds
of people turn out to hear the spellbinders,
not because they love the oratory
so much as that they are keenly bent
on the terpsichorean festivities that como
after the shades of night have fallen.
"And these dances; what glorious carnivals
of fun they are! Young men ride
from twenty to fifty miles to attend them,
and there is not a girl in all the neighborhood
missing. To cap the climax of
their importance, all the candidates, from
United States senators and governors
down to constables, are on hand, and
every one of them, by the unwritten law
of the land , must take his partner for the
dance. Any politican, no matter how exalted
his office, who flunked when the
time came to trip it on the light fantastic
toe would be forever persona non grata
with the electors of "Wyoming."?Washington

? A VERY CLOSE CALL..
"I 9tuck to my engine, although every
joint ached and every nerve racked with
pain," writes C. W. Bellamy, a locomotive
flremanHof Burlington, Iowa. I was weak
and pale, without any appetite and all
run down. As I was about to give up4 I
got a bottle of Electric Bitters, and after
taking it, I felt as well as I ever did in
my life." Weak, sickly, run down people
always gain new life, strength and
vigor from their use. Try them. Satisfaction

Hawser Finds Gold.
Harbodsburg, Ky., Dec. 23.?During
the last year of the Civil war an old gentleman
named Rynearson, who owned a
small farm in the Chapin Hills, and who
lived in a commodious double log cabin,
buried $2,800 in gold, fearing that it
might fall into the hands of guerilla bands.
A year afterward he was stricken with
apoplexy and died without revealing the
hiding place of the treasure.
Several years ago a grandson named
Lewis built a more pretentious dwelling
and razed the cabin. Some days ago a
tramp printer was dined by Lewis. At
the table the recent drought was mentioned,
and Mr. Lewis remarked that he
intended to drill a well. Thereupon the
typo remarked that he was a dowser and
could locate underground streams. Next
spring, with a forked twig, the tramp
walked about the yard, but the rod never
changed its position until the "wizard"
stepped upon the large rock that had
been the hearthstone in the cabin. Then
the twig began to tremble convulsively.
The dowser informed the land owner that
water could be found at a depth of twenty
feet* That afternoon the printer left for
Cincinnati.

the machinery hauled to the place and
the stone was removed preparatory to
begin drilling.
When the stone was lifted a number of
tin boxes were found. They were filled
with gold coins of every denomination.
The amount corresponded with that buried
by Mr. Rynearson. The drill was
put to work, and at last reports no water
had been found.?Cicinnnati Enquirer.
SAY '-MURRAY'S."
When you've got a bad cough just say
"MURRAY'S." If a druggist gives you
anything but Murray's Horehound, Mullein
and Tar, you're not getting the best
and surest cough remedy. Make him
give you Murray's. Acts quicker and you
get a 50c. size bottle for 25c. Every druggist
has it.
The great and good man, Dr. C. H.
Spurgeon, had this to say on the subject of
debt: "Debtors can hardly help being liars,
for they promise to pay when they know
that they cannot; and when they have
made up^a lot of false excuses they promise
again, and so they lie as fast as a
horse can trot. I should be as comfortable
with peas in my shoes, or a hedgehog
in my bed, or a snake up my back, as with
bills hanging over my head at the printing
office."
SAVED FROM TERRIBLE DEATH.
The family of Mrs. M. L. Bobbitt, of
Bareerton. Tenn., saw her dving and were
powerless to save her. The most skilful
physicians and every remedy used, failed,
while consumption was slowly but surely
taking her life. In this terrible hour Dr.
King's New Discovery for Consumption
turned despair into joy. The first bottle
brought immediate relief and its continued
cured her. It's the most certain cure
in the world for all throat and lung
troubles. Guaranteed bottles 50c and
$1 .00. Trial bottles free at all drug stores
at Bamberg, S. C., and Felder & Matthews,

GASOLINE ENGINESM
There are serious misgivings in the mind of the general public as to the
degree of perfection to which Gasoline Engines have attained, many
believing that it is yet nothing more "than an experiment. This
idea is erroneous. The product of numerous Gasoline Engine ^
Factories is'being placed upon the market, manifesting a x&gB
degree of perfection equal to that obtained by steam
engine builders of to-day." The experimental life
of Gasoline Engines has been passed some
fifteen years ago. Remember the WEBEIfc .
ENGINES have been on the market .
for twenty odd years.
