Caught the Train.
&' In a village in the Ozarks, says the
f Kansas City Star, a guest at the hotel
|> wished to catch the early morning train,
and asked to be called at three-thirty.
Having no alarm clock and no clerk, the
I a:- landlord sat ap all night to make sure of
aroosing him cn time.
The hotel-keeper foond it rather hard
y ; to keep awake, bat at three-thirty promptfc
* ly he knbcked at the guest's door,
jf' "Get up!" he said ia a surly tone. "It's
fc' three-thirty."
The gnest turned over and granted in
f sleepy laziness. "Ob, I gness Til let that
| train go, and sleep till seven," he said.
("No, ye won't, either!" shouted tne
landlord, and emphasized his remarks by
- shooting three or four shots into the floor
of the hallway from the revolver with
which he had guarded the hotel. UI sat
up all night to get you up on time, and
( you're a going to get up or I'll know the
i reason why!"
I There was an ample persuasiveness
f ' about the way he said it, and the guest
r. got up and caught his train.
The Chronic Office Seeker.
b- ' He runs for everything on earth?
The chronic office seeker;
Si* - He wears a smile the whole year 'round,
FV ; And Moses was not meeker.
r - Sometimes he represents free trade,
I Sometimes protective tariff;
Sometimes he runs for governor,
Sometimes he runs for sheriff.
F No matter what the race is for,
No matter what he's doing,
* i When 'lection time comes 'round he runs
For anything that's doing.
And when he dies and goes to where
I God sends the politician
He'll shake hands with the fiends, and run
* , For Satan's own position.

Harvard's Football Profits Exceed $57,000.
Graduate Manager Roger Ernst, of th<
athletic association of Harvard Univer
si:ty, has issued his financial report for thi
year of 1903-1904. It shows that footbal
Is most lucrative of the sports, the net re
ceipts aggregating the sum of $57,000
The track team was the only loser, drop
ping $556. Baseball also proved a profit
getter, the profits reaching $4,085.19. Ii
the game with Yale recently Harvard los'
a couple of hundred. The net balance foi
the year amounts to $33,057.51.
Harvard has proved a strong drawing
card at every place the several teams hav<
played, and it has about the largest ath
letic profits of any of the great Easterr
institutions pf learning. Football has attracted
much more liberal patronage than
the diamond game, the difference being
$53,000.
