I found in Georgia that sorghum hay
was raised by sowing two bushels and a 1
V half of seed to the acre, which made it
3 very thick on the land, and the stalks :
were very little larger than wheat straws, j
It was cut with the mower after heading |
and allowed to lay on the ground for ten j
days. Rain will not hurt it. It is then i
raked up and stored away with perfect
safety in the barn or in stacks. One other
advantage it has is the second crop, which
will come immediately from the stubble,
and I was told that this is more valuable
as feed than the first.?Southern Planter.
CAUSE OF LOCKJAW.
Lockjaw, or tetanus, is caused by a
bacillus or germ which exists plentifully j
in street dirt. It is inactive so long as I
exposed to the air, but when carried be- J

percussion caps or by rusty nails, and
* when the air is excluded the germ is
roused to activity and produces the most
virulent poison known. These germs
may be destroyed and danger of lockjaw
avoided by applying Chamberlain's rain

Oar Remarks Endorsed.
The Bamberg Herald remarks that
country editors receive little commendation
for their efforts for the good of the
community. That if they should ai; some
time or other say something that displeased
some cititizen, as they are most
likely to do, they would hear of it, but
they may say a thousand good and helpful
things for the community and no one says
to them a kind word, which is all very
true, but it is human nature, and it is really
refreshing to have a few bouquets while
one is living. The editor who has opinions
and expresses them and who stands for tbe
best interests of his people and speaks
the truth is obliged to run counter to some
one. But the truth is mighty and will

A good story, says the New Yprk Tribune,
is told of a certain Catholic Bishop
in the northwest, who, while examining

evidently been carefully prepared for the
examination. Her mother, greatly agitated,

The editor of the Toluca, Illinois, Herald
recently wrote: "Yesterday a swarm
of bees lit upon a limb of the tree in front
of Mrs. Smith Smitherson and presented
a very interesting appearance." But the
printer, who was in a hurry to attend a
ball game, got it up: "Yesterday a swarm
of bees lit upon a limb of Mrs. Smith
Smitherson, which presented a- very interesting
appearance." The next day
there was something madder than a swarm
of bees lit upon the editor. It was Mrs.
