** Disease and sickness bring old age.
Herbine taken every morning before
breakfast, keeps you in robust health, fits
you to ward off disease. It cures constifiation,
biliousness, dyspepsia, fever, skin,
iver and kidney complaints. It purifies
the blood, clears the complexion. Mrs. D.
"* W. Smith, "Whitney, Texas, writes: "I
have used Herbine, and I find it the best
medicine for constipation and liver troubles.
It does all you claim for it. I highly
recommend it." 50c a bottle. Sold by Dr.

The late Senator Hanna had a keen
mind and in contests of wit he was seldom
defeated, says the New York Sun. There
is a certain Cleveland lawyer whom Senator
Hanna liked to tantalize, though the
two men were really good friends. At a
* banquet in Cleveland Mr. Hanna nodded
toward this lawyer, and said: "Gentlemen,
you see Brown there? Well I was in
Brown's office yesterday when his client
in that contested will case called to
square accounts. The client stood out in
the hall and handed his bill in to Brown
to be receipted. 'Come in,' Brown called
to bim cordially. But the client shook his
head. 'No, thank you,' he said, 'you'd
charge me for rent if I did.'"
ROBBED THE GRAVE.
A startling incident, is narrated by John
Oliver, of PhiladelDhia. as follows: "I |
was.in awful condition. My skin was yellow,
my eyes sunken, tongue coated, pain
continually in back and sides, no appe
tite, growing weaker day by day. Three
- physicians had given me up. Then I was
advised to use Electric Bitters; to my joy,
% the first bottle made decided improvement.
I continued their use three weeks,
and am now well. I know they robbed
the grave of another victim." No one
should fail to try them. Only 50c, guaran,

A Clay county editor, speaking of the
old times when homespun clothes were
worn, tells of a farmer who was holding
the handles of an old-fashioned breaking
plow when it encountered a stump. The
v plow went by the stump, but the farmer's
homespun pants caught on it. The farmer
held on to the plow and the pants held on
to the stump. Something had to break,
and it was the stump, which was pulled
+ out by the roots.

~ ^ Somewhere Between.
Representative Moon, of Tennessee,
says that a number of years ago when
there was a large amount of 'moving' toward
Arkansas and Texas, an old man
* who kept a country store and postoffice
in his State was reading the papers one
day to a crowd of hangers-on around the
store and his eyes fell on the following
item:
" " 'Now that large numbers of emigranis
are traveling westward, corn will probably
command a high price.'
. "'What is an emigrant, Uncle Bill?'
v asked one of the listeners.
"'Dont know 'Zactlv, Jemes,' replied
Uncle Bill, 'but I think they are animals
somewhere between a 'possum an' a coon.
Anyhow this artickel jist as good as says
they are death on corn, be gosh.'"

At First Sight.
The lady orator, a tall and angular fe-1
male, was holding forth on the equality I
of the sexes and the rights of women.
"Made from a rib!" she cried, "It is a i
cinard devised by wicked men. Now, do
I look as if I had been made from a rib?
Do I? Can anybody say that I was? What
kind of a rib was I made of? I pause for
an answer, if there be one."
Here a small, unimportant-looking
man rose, and bowed, and said gently,
"Yes'm; I think you were made from a
rib."
"You do?" she retorted, shaking a lean
finger in his direction; "you do? You are
another of the men who wish to claim
credit for everything, are you? And so
you think I was made from the rib of a
man?"
"No'm," was the solemn answer, "from
the rib of an umbrella."
A CURE FOR HEADACHE.
Any man, woman or child suffering
from headache, biliousness or a dull,
drowsy feeling should take one or two of
DeWitt's Little Early Risers night and
morning. These little pills are famous
because they are a tonic as well as a pill.
While they cleanse the system they
strengthen and rebuild it by their tonic
effect uptfn liver and bowels. Sold by Dr.
H. F. Hoover.
An Old Farorite.
An old negro in a South Carolina town
was arrested for stealing chickens, and as
the old fellow bore a rather bad reputation
it was quite hard to secure counsel
for him. At last a young lawyer, who
had known Rastus for a long time, took
his case, to the great joy of the old man.
When his trial came off the judge asked
him:
"Are you the defendant?"
The old fellow, perplexed for a moment
then replied: "No, sah, dat's de defendant,
sah," pointing proudly at Bis counsel.
'Tse de man wot stole de chickens."
Nothing Equal to Chamberlain's Colic,
Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy for
Bowel Complaints in Children.
"We have used Chamberlain's Colic,
Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy in our
family for years," says Mrs. J. B. Cooke,
Nederlands, Texas. "We have given it
to all our children. We have used other
medicines for this purpose, but never
found anything to equal Chamberlain's.
If you use it as directed it will always
cure." For sale by Bamberg Pharmacy;

THE LADIES favor painting their
churches; and therefore we urge every
minister to remember we give a liberal
quantity of the Longman & Martinez
paint toward the painting. Wears and
covers like gold. Don't pay $1.50 a gallon
for linseed oil (worth 60 cents) which
you do when you buy other paints in a
can with a paint label on it. 8 & 6 make
14, therefore when you want fourteen
gallons of paint, buy only eight of L. &
M., and mix six gallons pure linseed oil
with it, and thus get paint at less than
$1.20 per gallon. Many houses are well
painted with four gallons of L. & M. and
three gallons linseed oil mixed therewith
These celebrated paints are sold bv

A Lesson in Geography.
"How far is it around the world?"
In girlish innocence asked she.
"Ah, I will measure it," he said,
"If you'll permit me, love, to see,"
Then wheu his strong right arm he'd
placed
Around her waist so small and trim,
He found it wasn't so very far?
For she was all the world to him.
A GREAT SENSATION.
There was a bte sensation in Leesville,
Ind., when W. H. Brown of that place!
was expected to die, had his life saved
by Dr. King's New Discovery for consumption.
He writes: "I endured insufferable
agonies from asthma but your New
Discovery gave me relief and soon thereafter
effected a cure." Similar cures of consumption,
pneumonia, bronchitis and grip
are numerous. It's the peerless remedy
for all throat and lung troubles. Price
50c, and ?1.00. Guaranteed by J. B. Black,
Bamberg, S. C.; H. C. Rice. Denmark.
