One of the oldest institutions in the city
of Melbourne, Australia, known as the
"8 o'clock rush," is in danger of extinction.
For half a century a philanthropic
restaurant proprietor has given a free
meal at 8 o'clock every evening to newly
arrived immigrants or respectable persons
who were temporarily "down on their
luck." No professional loafers or chronically
unemployed were encouraged. The
attendance averaged about 100, and every
Melbourne journalist considered it his
duty to write a description of the scene
at least once in his career. The proprietor
of the restaurant is now retiring from
business. He is said to have received lega
cies from people whom he thus befriended
and who afterward prospered.
BALLARD'S HOREHOUND SYRUP
immediately relieves hoarse, croupv

that has given better satisfaction.
When I sell a Dottle they come back for
more. I honestly recommend it." 25c, 50c,

Representative Champ Clark, of Missouri,
attended exercises in a kindergarten
school the other day.
"Have any of. you children ever seen

youngsters.
"I have," shouted one little fellow.
"Where?" asked Mr. Clark, impressed
with the youngster's earnestness.
"On the elephant," he answered.

ARE YOU A DYSPEPTIC?
If you are a dyspeptic you owe it to
yourself and friends to get well. Dyspepsia
annoys the dyspeptic's friends because
his disease sours his disposition as well as
his stomach. Kodol Dyspepsia Cure will
not only cure dyspepsia, indigestion and
sour stomach, but this palatable, reconstructive
tonic digestant strengthens the
whole digestive apparatus, and sweetens
the life as well as the stomach. When
you take Kodol Dyspepsia Cure the food
is enjoyed. It is digested, assimilated and
its nutrient properties appropriated by
blood and tissues. Health is the result.

A lady going through a hospital during
the last war saw a couple of soldiers
sawing and hammering, and said:
' What are you doing?"
"Making a coffin; that's all."
"A coffin, indeed, and who is it for?"
"That fellow over there," pointing to a
cot.
The lady looked and saw that the man
was alive and watching what was going
on.
"Why," she said, in a low voice, "that
man is not dead, and perhaps he won't
die."
