II. Saul Kicking Against the Pricks
(vv. p).
The figure here is that of• the East
ern ox driver following the ox with a
sharp iron-fixed to the end of pole.
The animal is prodded on with this
invtruinent and if it is refractory it
kicks againKt the sharp jron and in
jures Itself. Tills is a picture of Saul
as lie was madly fighting against Jesus
1. A Light From Heaven (vv. 3-4u).
The time I tad come for Ihe Lord to
interfere. Saul was stricken with
blindness and fell to the eitrjh. This
physical demonstration accentuated
tiie workings of his consciefice wiiirh
don lit! ev.s were going on quickened by*
the Indy Spirit as He used Stephen’s
testimony.
2. A \ oiee f rom Heaven (vv. 4h-5).
Tiiis was the Lord’s voice calling
Saul by name and asking, "Why pbr-
seeutest thou Me?" Tiiis moved Saul
to inquire, "Who art thou, Lord?" The
answer came, "I am Jesus, whom thou
pet seeUtest.’’ H*^ is so closely Identi
fied-with believers that .He feels their
sufferings and regards treatment of
them as treatment of Himself.
3. Saul’s Inquiry (t. 0), "What Wilt
Thou i lave Ml* to I >o?"
Tiie Lord told him to go into the
t city where information would be given
bin*, as to what lie must do.
4. Said Entering Damascus (vv.
7 0).
The liaughfy persecutor went quite
humbly into Damascus, led by his at
tendants. For the space of three days
Ife remained blind and fasted. What
went on in 1 is soul In those days no
mortal can know, but we may be as-
sfired that he, lik^* the Lord in the wil-
derec.-s, was tod deep in riieditation
and prayer to desire food.
III. Ananias Ministers to Saul (vv.
10-10).
1. Ananias’ Vision (vv. 1012). o
In tid" vision tin* Lord alqfeared and
in.sjructed him to go to Saul. He gave
him the name of the street and Saul s
host, amf informed him that Saul was
now a praying man, and that He had
prepared Saul by a vision for the com
ing of Ananias.
2. Ananias’ Fear and Hesitancy (vv.
13-10).
He knew of f S»iuLs ministry and the
authority hy which he came. The Lord
.encouraged him to go, assuring him
that Saul is no longer an enihny but-'g)
