TWO LETTERS WRITTEN BEFORE
AND AFTER MANASSAS BATTLE
Mr. T L. Wragg, of Blackville, has
indly consented to-allow The People
,*:«>^.publish two v<?ry interPsting letters
that were written by hts father dur-
mg the War Between the States^'
one, before and the other after the
Frst Battle of Manas^a& which, as he
states in his second letter, was the
largest battle ever fought on Ameri
can soil up to that time. The letters
are interesting in that they were
written by a participant while im
pressions were fresh on his mind.
They are as follows:
Before the Battle.
Manassas Junction, July. Jlst.
My Dear Papa:
1 take this* opportunity of writing
you, ais 1 have a little time to my-
self. We are encamped on the north
-ide of the town with the rest of the
.my, and expect a fight every day.
The enemy are about seven miles from
us and advancing. Our scouts were
fired on yesterday by the enemy, and
une man was wounded by the burst
ing of bomb shell. We heard today
that the enemy was advancing in
tnree columns: one from MaKins-
Vurg. one from Harpers Ferry and
the other by way of Romney. They
n* trying to outflank us. Our bri
gade and 'f'rrneral Jackson’s have
been ordered to take position on the
mad leading to Charlestown to pre
vent about five or six thousand from
getting behind the main body. We
"v'ere all very much excited last night.
^7list after Tattoo, our Captain tol<l us
F'hat Colonel Gardner said he would
lead ut into battle' today. We were
all up in the morning at 2:30 and ex
pected to have a figl'it curtain, but
were disappointed. We were drawn up

Lubrication of the Ford calls for a free-flowing
oil that reaches all bearing surfaces. We have
an oil that fits the Ford car exactly.
“Standard” Polxrine Motor Oil for Fords is
refined for Ford cars and none other. It is made
with the same care that has placed other con
sistencies of “Standard” Polarine Motor Oils in
the front rank of motor oils. We have been
using it experimentally on private cars and on
our own fleets of Ford cars, until we are sure
it is better than other oils for Fords.
You will notice the difference immediately when
you change to the new oil, for it does a thorough
job of lubricating every Ford it gets a chance at.
