“I g'ff •» number of weekly news-
jiapers published ’n this section,
hut The People is the iH^st of them
all,” said a prominent local busi
ness' man in eonv»rration with a
rep •esentative bl toitf paper a few
da > s igs.
The editor appreciates th'- com
pliment- Very much and while he
does not like to “blow his own
horn,” he feels tli^U his efforts to
give the peoptv^of-Rarmvell County
a newsy, readable paper are meet
ing with their approval. In this
connection it migiit he pointed out
that practically every week The
People publishes interesting news
items of county-wide importance
that appear in no other newspaper*
published in Barnwell County or
elsewhere.
He also wishes to thank adver
tisers for their loyal support in
making it [losdble for him to pub
lish a newspaper that is a credit to
a town the size of Barnwell. The
statement is made without fear of
contradiction that for some time
past The People has published
MORE INTERESTING LOCAL
AND COUNTY NEWS AND LO
CAL ADVERTISING THAN ANY
OTHER NEWSPAPER IN BARN
WELL COUNTY.
An invitation L extended to ev

keep up this splendid record by
.sending or phoning any’ items of
news^Tfial TRey may know. The
People would like to have a few
more correspondents throughout
the eiVinty to send in the news
frovv their sections regularly.

the back yard the detonation of a
shot gun. >
“O I/ord,” they heard from the
sheriff, who had fallen mortally

None of the officers witnessed the

in the meanwhile.the battle went on,
ami no one—-the negro woman, who
secured the fallen officer’s pistol, ex
