the Carolina Midland Railroad to Al
lendale. He was associated in busi
ness for a number of years with the
late Mr. R. H. Walker, of Appleton.,
He was long'associated with the
Southern Railway Company in its ex-

Nashville Railroad line from Knox
ville t;> Cartersville, Ga. He wan- the
successful bidder for the construc

undertaking was first thought of bv

of the government to build the canal
under its own supervision kept Mr.
Oliver from realizing his greatest
ambition.
He is remembered by a number of
