Frank Silver and His Company Give
Varied Program.
What Charleston News and Courier
said of the -Frank Silver Band whicit
is coming to the'Vamp Theatre be
night, May 8th:
Frank Silver, the chap who com
posed the all-pervading “Yes, W'e
Have No Bananas," is offering an
unusual, but very agreeable, entertain
ment in the nature of a jazz revue.
Not only is Mr. Silver carrying a good
orchestra of its kind, hut’his dancer
is lithe, graceful and just brimming
with enthusiasm. The Silver ente--
tainers were at the Academy of Music
last night and the audience found
pleasure in following the program.
Mr. Silver does the conducting
himself. He also looks after the
Irum* and traps. «His orchestra has
several novelty instruments and these
are used to advantage. Earl Hurst
{ittracts some attention because he
is blowing the largest bass tube ever
-Teh in the Southeast. It is an eno>--
mous instiumcrft hut his lungs appear
amply powerful to give it ail it needs.
At least one. interested onlooker sug
gested that Mr. Hurst* horn resem
bled the ventilator of a steamship.
M iss Robbe A met is another likely
and comely young woman with many
active personal attractions. She
sing- and dance* merrily after the
manner^pf these jaz/ queens and her
cusfumes are as^ da ring as she is. Miss
•Arnei_is a strong feature for -the.
revue. . i
Mr. .Silver i* offered a varied, an I
a generous volume of it. While the
emphasis- is on the. jazr vogue, there
are reminiscent snatches from tha'
dassic. Wagnet iana being included.
The man who caused a whole nation
to sing aiw>ut a supposed famine in
bananas has an unusual combination,
but it is one of the elements of ponu-
