Practically all of tljf original states

have a register, and knowing that
it abounds in aristocracy,-imperisha
ble history and incidents that should
be immortalized for the benefit of
future generations a Social Register
is being compiled that is superior to
any from Virginia, New York, North
Carolina and other states whose Reg
isters have been examined.
The “South Carolina Social Regis
ter” is to contain the names of the
representative women ot the state—
women who represent the old days,
and women who represent the modern
days in that they are engaged in
the upbuilding of a greater and bet
ter South Carolina.
All applications for registration
will he passed upon by a special com

MEETING AT BARNWELL
Dr.
W. C. Smith Elected Chairman.-
Delegates Also Chosen.
On Tuesday, April 15th, the mem
bers of the Cooperative Marketing
Association in Barnwell County held a
meeting for the purpose of electing
delegates to attend the district meet
ing held at Bamberg on April 22nd.
A very enthusiastic meeting was held
at Barnwell in the Court House, at
which time many interesting matters
o discussed^—in addition to—the-
election of delegates to go to Bam
berg. Dr. W. C. Smith, of Williston,
was elected chairman of the County
unit, and he presided over the meet
ing, having takjgji a very active part
in the day’s business. Dr. Smith has
always been a very enthusiastic mem-
ber of the Cooperative Marketing As
sociation. and it was very well that
he was elected County Chairman, as
he is always interested in the welfare
of the farmer, and expectw to assist
materially in the increased interest
in the Associaton.
W. E. Prothro, of Williston, and
H. G. Boylston, of Barnwell, were
elected delegates, and Capt. W. D.
Black, of YVilliston, and Victor Lewis,
of Kline, w*ere elected alternates.
These men, along' with one or two
other members, attended the district
meeting held in Bamnerg on the 22ml,
and there very important business
was attended to. At that time Dr.
Dick Johnston was unanimously
selected as the sole candidate whose
name is to he submitted to the voters
of the 8th district of cotton growers.
Dr. Johnston has already served as
director of cotton growers for the
*.
two proceeding years, and he seems
to have served in th*s' capacity most
acceptably to the members in his
district. * * *>
