TWO CHALLENGES.
1. The People challenges "the claim
of any other newspaper in Barnwell
County to a larger county circulation
than is enjoyed by this paper.
2. The People challenges the claim
of any newspaper that is edited in
one county and “set" and printed in
another county to style itself “the
only all-homeprint newspaper in
County.”
The People does not c laim to he an
“aU-homeprint newspaper,” but it
does claim to "set” and print MORE
of its paper at home than any other
newspaper in Barnwell County.
The People believes in "Truth in
Advertising,” whethers it be adver
tising concerning itself or others.
The People is a paper “of the peo

E. J. Meinhardi, the well known Kx-
pert-from Chicago, will personally be
at the Genesta Hotel, Augusta, Ga ,
on Saturday only, April 2*5th.
Mr. Meinhardi says "The Vacuum
Rupture Shield” will not only hold the
Rupture .perfectly, but will /ontract
the opening in ton days on the average
case—usually giving instantaneous
relief withstanding alf strain regard
less of the size and location of the
Rupture. This instrument is highly
indorsed for producing results in the
United Statesman! foreign countrit 1 ?^
without the use of surgery, medical
treatment, prescriptions or injections.
—Caution: ' Ruptured, persons should
beware, of old style trusses with un
der-straps. These trusses usually
place the pad on the lump and not pn
the rupture opening. This often
causes serious trouble resulting in
strangulation and necessitating a
surgical operation. Mr? Meinliardi
will be- glad to demonstrate free to
all who call at the hotel- from 10 a.
m. to 4 p. m., the unusually .rapid
results- produced by “The Vacuum
Shield.” The largest and most diffi-
t-ult cases are especially desired.
Only gentlemen are invited to call
on the above date* asc'a special visit
will be- made here at a later date for
women and children.
Notice: Do not wrtte asking to be
fitted by mail as this is impossible.
Every case must be seen personally.
If interested, you must call at this
hotel on the above date. Business
demands prevent stopping at any

First news of the Japanese earth-
(juake estimated an approximate
money loss of $100,000,000. Later re
ports boosted this figure to at least
ten billions. After reliable figures
were gathered the Japanese foreign
office estimated the loss at $933,000,-
■sK*.
This uncertainty in news is mo^t
apparent when disasters occur. First
reports seldom are correct; the tacts
• ither are exaggerated or underesti
mated. In some cases the truth re
mains obscured tor days or weeks.
Reports of less sensational news ot-
!<*n fluctuate in a similar manner.
Statements made one day are con
tradicted the next. Sometimes one
small item will grow into a story.yf
several columns, while on the otb**r-
hand a big piece of news may prove
in a short time to have nu substantial
foundation of fact.
The People tries to give its readers
each week this foundation of fact in
its News Review of Current Events.
Written by Edward W. Pickard, this
resume of world happenings comes io
you as predigested news. Mr. Pick
ard is a seasoned newspaper man,
writer tuid traveler. He is in touch
constantly with most of the reliable
sources of world news.
It is not his duty to censor, but
merely to refine this vast supply of
raw material into dear, intelligible
and unbiased accountings of what has
happened, together with an expres
sion of its relative importance to all
of us.
Manv of our subscribers are con
ternatiortal news. The People at all
times seeks to offer the most interest-

Ask any garageman, any mechanic, in fact,
any person who knows motor cars, what he
thinks about Buick. Invariably he will tell
you that Buick is a thoroughly good, high
grade and dependable automobile and that a

person makes a genuinely satisfactory invest-

owners you know what they think about
Buick.-Do these things and you will quickly
