the board,,over 2,000 pastoral-charges

of them have voluntarily increased
the amounts. 'Several large individ

and others are expected.
There arc over 900t of the'old
preachers, many of them pioneer cir
cuit riders who rode through storm
and sunshine, winter and. summer,
day and night, to serve humanity and
the church, 1,300 widows and 600 or
phans, many of whom are living m
little better than poverty. They never
forgot duty and the church for a
single moment, and there is now evi
dence on all sides thai the, church is
at last thoroughly awake to its be
lated duty to its forgotten servants.

“Large Crowds Cheer^Obregon in

be taken as meaning mat the revolu

“The above illustration gives one

The House of Representatives in
creased the appropriation for the
feeble minded from $103,110 to $149,-
110. Probably some of the members
of that august.body thought -they
might become inmates of the institu
tion when their term of office ex
pires.
^Several itionlhs ago- the rriusic De
partment of the State Federation of
Women’s Clubs, together with the
Extension Division and the Music De
partment of Winthrop College, took
up the question of a Staie-widc Music
Memory Contest for South Carolina.
An immediate response v came Irom a
large number of counties, who are
now planning both local and county
contests to select champions for .the
State Contest, to ’•c held at Winthrop
College July 3 and 4, 1924
—"For
en from which selections will be made
for the local, coumy and state contests.
The local contests will lx* confined fo
puf)ils of the public st'.ibols, includ
ing the, high school grades. A puoil
then give the name of the composi
tion along with the name and nation-'
Bitty of the composer. • The first ef-
yfort, tehrefone, will be to get .these
compositions played In as many plac«f
a.s possible as often as possible, and
to have someone, explain their-charac
teristics and to give an account of the.
author’s, life, and work, so that * the
contestants' can recognize the coin-
positions even when only n few bars
are heard. ‘ The selections can be
played on the piano, violin, or with a
“talking machine,” by a band, orches
tra, etc. The aim is to familiarize the
hearers with the selections, so* that
theyTcan bo" instantly recognized. %
To prepare for the County Contest,
it* is necessary that the local programs
be started at once.
..Under the auspices of Mrs. T. L
(■’umimipgs,* Barnwell had its first

ing program being rendered:
Barcarolle—Mrs. Ralph Smith.' '

A fellow with a German-sounding

loupes. I immediately fook the mat
ter up with Mr. W. D. Moore, Plant
Pathelogist with the Extension Divis
ion, in order that 1 might be able to
intelligently advise farmers as to
which method to use. He said that
at t,he present time he would not feel
justified in recommending dust in
preference to liquid, as mere was not
sufficient data to warrant the general
use of dust at this time. However, he
believed that there was a great future
to the use of Bordeaux dust in prefer
ence to the Bordeaux liquid.
, In view of the above information.
1 call to your attention the fact that
k is. imperative for you to spray tip*
above named crops for the control hi’
Anthracnose. The spraying will
not begin- until the vines, begin to
run. Three sprays are then applied
at intervals of ten days. _ •
Those farmers who expect.to spray
this season should take the matter up
with me immediately in order that*
spray pumps and material may he
gotten at reasonable prices, and also
that they may have such material on
hand when the time comes to spray.'
