MANSLAUGHTER—5 YEARS
Court of General Sessions Adjourned
Sine Die Tuesday.
The December term of the Court of
General "Sessions adjourned sine ‘die
Tuesday morning. The following is a
list of the pases disposed of since the
last issue of The People:
Nolan Scott, alias 'Willie - Scott,
alias Henry Nolan, was convicted of
carbreaking and larceny and sen-
tenced to three years at hard labor.
George Thompson pleaded guilty to
the Charge of obstructing railroad
tracks and was sentenced to 60 days
at hard labor.
Saxon Scotty pleaded guilty to the
charge of violating the prohibition
law and was sentenced to 12 months
at hard labor; on payment of $100. 6
months of the sentence to be suspend-

Annual Stockholders’ Meeting Held
Here Last Week.
The Home Bank of Barnwell held
its annual stockholders’ meeting Sat
urday and the directors ordered paid
immediately to the stockholders ten
per cent. This makes 110'per cent,
the bank has paid since its orgirrriifa-
tion. The other ten per cent, was
placed to undivided profits and a bon
us was paid to each officer, director
and attorney. »

Announcement is made that a ton
sil and adenoid clinic will be held at
Barnwell January 16th and 17th, un
der the auspices of the Associated
Charities of this city, for the benefit
of Barnwell County children under
14 year 3 of age. Dr. Chas. V. Kol-
lock, of Charleston, who la a special
ist in this line of surgery, has agreed
to perform the operations, and he
will be assisted by Dr. Hiers, of Ehr-
hardt. The Barnwell High school
building will be converted into a
temporary hospital and four trained
nurses will be in attendance. One
local doctor and a trained nurse will
be on duty all night.

The Grand Jury for the Gaunty
having performed all .of its work fo.
the present term begs leave Ao report
s- follows:
1. We Lave passed upon and re
turned to the Court all bills of indict
ment handed to us by the Solicitor. ,
2. We have m.ide the usual inves
tigation of all of the County offices
and officers an<| find them all in fine
shape, and being pro^rly managed.
3. We have inspected" the County
Jail and find the same in the usual
dean and good condition and- we most
heartily commend Mr. Main, the Jail
er, for the good service he has so long
rendered the County sn this capacity.
4. We have visited and inspected
the County Poorhouse which is being
operated under a Board of Regents
and we find the same in better condi
tion than we have ever known this in
stitution. The inmates are satisfied,
the premises are clean, food is good
and we want To commend Mrs. Lemon,
the Chairman of the Board, for the
fine sen’ice that she-has rendered for
these unfortunate people- We do rec
ommend that all the buildings at the
County Poorhouse be white-washed.
5. We have visited and inspected
the County Chaingangs and find them
in good condition. We find the storlc
well kept and doing good work. Wo

sanitary kitchen should be furnished
immediately and put in use.
6. We recommend that the Court
House yards be cleared of all -Mash
and that all the property of no ser
vice be removed from the premises
surrounding the Court House.
7. We recommend that the walls
between the old Court House building
and ’ the annex now under construc
tion be torn down so as to furnish
more’ room 5n<f light for the Public
Officers who use the building.

Extradition of W. C. Crawford,
wanted di MJamberg County to face
charges of obtainihg money un<Dr
false pretenses, has been honored by
Gov. Cameron Morrison, of North
Carolina, according to a telegram re
ceived last week by Gov. Thomas G.
McLeod from the North Carolina ex
ecutive. ,
^Crawford is charged with obtaining
$352 from a Denmark bank by falsely
representing himself the owner of
property, which, the State contends,
was not in his possession.
Sheriff S. G. Rayr earned as the
agent of South Carolina in tfie requi
sition papers issued by Governor Mc
Leod, has been notified of Governor
Morrison’s action and is to return the
prisoner to South Carolina.

Fairfax Bank Closes.
The Citizens Bank of Fairfax closed
its doors to business Wednesday of
last week and the afrairs of the bank
were placed in the hands of .the State
Bank Examiner, according to tnR fol
lowing notice posted on the doors\fi^
the bank under date of December 12:
“The Citizens Bank of Fairfax har
ing exhausted its cash reserve and be
ing unable to realize on its bills re
ceivable sufficiently to pay its cred
itors, has this day placed the affairs
of the institution in the han<js of the
State Bank Examiner for a period of
30 days under Act of 1912.”
The notice was sighed By the direc
