now atudy the Ins and outs of the art
of scoutmastering, under their own
reading lump. Is shown In the recent
first report of the home study course (
in scoutmastership, conducted by tha
extension department of Columbia uni- I
versity under the supervision of the 1
department of education, Boy Scouts
of America. In one year 204 scout- I
masters, some commissioners, scout
executives and other leaders enrolled
for the course. The registrations came
from every state in the Union, chiefly
from scoutmasters In small towns
where leadership training was not
available. Among the students en
rolled were two in Hawaii and one
each in Australia, China and India.
The course has been developed to
assist scoutmasters to solve the vari
ous problems of troop management,
meeting program, hike and camp ac
tivities, instructions and tests, patrol
organization and the like. The coui>e
consists of a directed study of the
