The Price of Gasoline. » . - - v ^ , Last week, the Governor of South Dakota ordered that gasoline be sold by the State for 16 cents a gallon, in protest against the very high prices being charged for that neces sary fuel. The Standard Oil Com pany immediately reduced its price to that figure, although claiming that in selling it at 16 cents the company will lose ntoney. Following this action on the part of the oil concern, the Governor of North Dakota sent a telegram to the Standard people aemanding that “gas” be sold in his State at 16 cents. There has consequently been a growing movement for fire preven tion education in the schools, and eleven states have already placed upon their statute “books measures playing, calling for such instruction. Only fifteen minutes a week are devoted to the subject, but it is held that even in this space of time much good may be accomplshel. In order to meet the demand fot a standard work of instruction, the Na- tonal Board of Fire Underwriters, with the assistance of the U. S. Bureau of Education, has published a manual known as “Safeguarding the Home Against Fire/' and this is the basis of study in practically all of the states. There can be no doubt that the teaching of fire prevention in the schools will cause the coming generation to become fire consioua in the proper sense.
