Samuel, for Saul was a commanding
and lovable personality. Then, too.

of the United State’ Confederate Vet

city, the pageant, vividly setting forth
scenes from* the old South, at the
fair grounds
Approximately 2.000 people took
part in the pageant, which was given
in honor of the wearers of the gray
by the community service. Miss .Mar
garet Wright having charge and be-
! ing ably assisted by energetic com-
| mittees, all of which cooperated
heartily in making the dosing specta-
■ cle a success. The pagent. by a num-

i South during the war, the surrender

quently estimate men by their dross,
culture, wealth and position. These
are only surface manifestations and
frequently lead us astray, but God
looks Into the heart. (2) David
chosen (vv. 8-12). All but one of
Jesse’s sons-Jiad been looked upon
but stilt the Lord’s choice had not ap
peared. Jesse’s reply to Samuel’s
question as to whether all his children
had appeared seems to imply that
David was not of much importance.
He was considered good enough to
watch the sheep but not important
enough to be culled - to the feast. Be
cause David was faithful as a shep
herd boy, he was In line for promo
tion when God’s given time arrived.
3. David Anointed (v. 13). When
the shepherd lad appeared, the Lord
directed Safnuel to anoint him. When
the olHvas applied the Spirit of the

gifted and attractive lad but this
was of no avail without the Spirit
of God. Power must come from God.
Only as we are anointed by the Holy
Ghoct can we truly do the Lord’s will
