from the sece of the crime.
The «)nly evidence of any value
secured by the sheriff was furnish
ed by Tom Rector, son of Jesse
Rector, and surviving member of
the family. Young Rector told the
sheriff that his kinsmen were mur
dered ,by a party of six or seven
men.
Sheriff Goforth stated that he had
found Jesse and York Rector with
their hands tied behind their backs
with wire. The head of the youhg-
er man had been partly blown off
with a shotgun and the remainder
riddled with-pistol halls.

The locomotive was one of two at
tached to a southbound New York
Central freight train. The boiler
was thrown 400 feet ahead of the
train, it landed on the rails and
the head engine crashet) into it.
The cause of the explosion has not
been determined.
