Attorney GenenU Daugl
Charleston.—Columbliuwas selecfed
as the next place of meeting for the
South Carolina R< tail Jewelers’ asso
ciation, which ended its two-day pro
gram here, and W. E. Avery, of Colum
bia. was elected president; other of
ficers be,ing: Miss Margaret J. Malms,
of Charleston, first , vice-president; W.
R. Hale, Jr., of Greenville, second
vice-president, and W. 1’. Cart, of
Charleston, secretary and .treasurer.
The next convention will be held
some time in march, 1923, the date to
be decided later. The Jewelers dis
cussed at length the need of modify
ing the law concerning the sale of
unclaimed repair work,' holding that
the present statute is too cumber
some. They desire the law simplified
so that they can sell unclaimed work
without further proceedings than rea
sonable notice to the owner. Some of
the jewelers have unclaimed property
In their safes that has been there
for a score of years. Most of them
find it expensive to keep wound up
and regulated timepieces left with
them. Under the present law they
have to go through too much pre
liminary advertising of such sales
